Premium member Presentation Transcript Classroom Management : Classroom Management By Jason Kopanke My definition of classroom management: : My definition of classroom management: The constant adjustment of actions taken by the teacher to facilitate an environment where everyone is respected & provided an opportunity to learn My New definition of classroom management: : My New definition of classroom management: The neutralization of students who do not poses either the desire to learn or the ability to behave My philosophy of discipline & classroom management : My philosophy of discipline & classroom management All students are unique. They learn differently, they respond to discipline differently, they come from different walks of life and yet they must all answer to the same rules and level of discipline. Clearly explained, posted, and constantly enforced rules allows for the teacher to discipline the students fairly and consistently. Because of varying students personalities, and severity of infractions the rules will be enforced slightly differently based upon situational concerns. My philosophy of discipline & classroom management : My philosophy of discipline & classroom management All students are unique. They learn differently, the respond to discipline differently, they come from different walks of life and yet they must all answer to the same rules and level of discipline. This helped by… Not requiring discipline for each infraction Management level of class increased greatly with this change New Class Procedures : New Class Procedures Be in the class when the bell rings Unless allowed when you talk or are out of your seat you write Personal Consequences : Personal Consequences Verbal Warning Writing Assignment Detention &/or Parent Call Office Referral New Personal Consequences : New Personal Consequences Refer to Procedure being broken Writing Assignment done in class Students put on a do not admit list until a parent conference Office Referral Students had greater responsibility governed with by grades… Rewards : Rewards Verbal Praise Tickets Call Home New Rewards : New Rewards NONE Administration believed that because of my rewards and incentive program the students did not take me seriously and caused class disruptions. Therefore I removed rewards. Parental Involvement : Parental Involvement Positive calls homes at the start of the year Letter to the parents start of the year Monthly e-mails to parents Parent Teacher conferences Invite parents to sit in on classes Have parents sign progress reports and writing assignments New Parental Involvement : New Parental Involvement Positive calls homes at the start of the year Signed letter explaining class policies Required Parent Teacher conferences Invite parents to sit in on classes Three Key Changes That Improved Management #1 : Three Key Changes That Improved Management #1 By renaming rules class management increased significantly and teacher time spent on discipline decreased significantly No longer was a consequence required for all offenses but rather a referral to the procedures Three Key Changes That Improved Management #2 : Three Key Changes That Improved Management #2 By assigning grades/as consequences for behavior time spent on discipline decreased I no longer forced the students to work They were required to behave and be quiet but not work They were encouraged to work by grades given for assignment's done in class Students who wanted to learn could and those who did not want to learn did not I did enforce a class of quiet students Three Key Changes That Improved Management # 3 : Three Key Changes That Improved Management # 3 Changed teaching technique Removed labs Decreased lectures time Increased book work time Dimmed lights Played classical music during the class Created a routine by constantly following the same steps and failed the majority of my class during the first two terms You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
