AN IRON FIST WITH A VELVET GLOVE That’s how I (wish I) rule my classroom.

C.M. Defined The process by which teachers organize, structure, and otherwise conduct the actions of their classroom to establish an environment conducive to student learning and increase time on task so that students can successfully and quickly meet established objectives

Personal Philosophy : 

Personal Philosophy Establish the tone swiftly and early Use standard punishments, but find what hurts most individually Runs like a business; either one fails, we all fail--don’t impede my or any one else’s progress, and we won’t yours Rewards are more effective than punishments in eliciting behaviors Mediocrity is unacceptable Practice, practice, practice!

More Rules Independent Practice Raise your hand to speak, ask for help, leave your seat for any reason Group Work Everyone must participate, giving his/her best effort Use inside voices Respect materials; return them exactly as you received them

Consequences Carry around the gradebook (& camera) for documentation KOOL POINTS! (Thanks, Dr. Deitz) Every student starts the week with 10 “Uncool” = warning “NOT cool” = loss of Kool Point Severity Clause Time Out desk at back Office referral Phone Call Home

Rewards : 

Rewards Verbal praise Kool Points! Phone call home Whole class tracking (marbles/football field) Student of the Week (gets The Chair)

Procedures: Start of Class : 

Procedures: Start of Class Students enter orderly and quietly (if not, have them re-do it) Students sit in assigned seats and immediately begin the bell work Students not in their seat when the bell rings are not following directions and therefore breaking procedure (loss of kool points)

Procedures: Taking up Papers Pass forward and left Student in front right seat will get up and file it in his period’s folder located on my desk

Procedures: Dismissal : 

Procedures: Dismissal Before the bell rings, students will pick up their immediate area Once a row looks acceptable, then they may leave one row at a time (self or SOTW dismissal order)

Parental Involvement : 

Parental Involvement Phone call and letter home within first two weeks Students make personal note cards the first week Encouraged contact through meetings, e-mail and phone calls
