Adam & Eve One command – not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil God told them they shall die die Genesis Chapter 3 Nahash – Hebrew for a serpent that bites and kills with venom Satan possesses both spiritual and physical strength Original Sin – Adam and Eve chose their will over God’s

Penalty for sin: 

Penalty for sin Genesis 3:16-19 All humanity lost its supernatural gifts Man will… Die Feel pain Must work hard for survival No longer have the fullness of God’s Grace God through the Word & Sacraments tries to restore his connection with us

Sin: 

Sin Original Sin – Our natural inclination to excessive our will over God’s We are born with this The sacrament of Baptism begins the restoration Grace

Sin: 

Sin Personal Sin – Those we commit, for which we are guilty Venial Sin – less serious; confession, Eucharist, and prayer can cleanse us of these. Mortal Sin – Matt 10:28 & Can kill the soul 1. Full Knowledge, 2. Grave Matter, 3. Deliberate Consent Requires confession

Deadly Sins: 

Deadly Sins Traditional Added by Pope Benedict in 2007 Pride Greed Lust Rage Gluttony Envy Sloth Environmental pollution Genetic manipulation Accumulating excessive wealth Inflicting poverty Drug trafficking & Consumption Morally debatable experiments Violations of fundamental rights of human nature
