Biologist-a person who studies plant and animal life C : C 1.Cloud-a mass of tiny water drops or ice crystals that floats in the air above the Earth 2.Comet-a small object made up of ice, dust and gas that orbits the sun. Jets of gas and dust form long tails that can be seen from Earth. D : D 1.Drag-resistance to motion through the air 2.Dock-to join with another vehicle in space E : E 1.Energy-the ability to do work 2.Electricity-electric current, the movement of negative particles through a material, used as a source of power F : F Force-a push or pull 2. Facility-something built to serve a certain purpose, usually a building, structure or warehouse G : G Galaxy-one of the very large groups of stars and other matter that are found throughout the universe 2.Gravity- the force by which a planet or other body tends to draw objects toward its center H : H Hubble Space Telescope-a large telescope placed in orbit above Earth that takes pictures of objects in space Habitat-a place where a plant, animal or human can get the food, water, shelter and space needed to live I : I Invention- the discovery of something previously unknown or creation of something new International Space Station-a laboratory that circles Earth, where people live and work J : J Jupiter n. the largest planet and the 5th from the sun Jove n. supreme god of Romans; counterpart of Greek Zeus L : L Launch-to send something on its way, such as when a rocket's engines are ignited to send it from Earth into space Laboratory-a room or building where scientific work is done M : M Matter-something that takes up space and can be observed by one of the five senses; anything that has both mass and volume Machine-a thing made up of fixed and moving parts, used for doing some kind of work N : N NASA-National Aeronautics and Space Administration Nozzle-a short, narrow tube that directs a flow or spray of liquid or gas O : O Orbit-the path followed by a moon, planet or artificial satellite as it travels around another body in space Orbiter-the part of the space shuttle that looks like an airplane, flies into space and back down again, carrying people and equipment P : P Planets-large round objects that revolve around a star Probe-a spacecraft that has tools to gather information about Earth, the moon, another planet or outer space R : R Rainbow-an arc or circle of colors that appears in the sky opposite the sun. A rainbow is caused by the sunlight shining through raindrops, spray or mist Rocket-a vehicle used to launch people and objects into space S : S Solar System-the sun and all the planets, moons, comets and asteroids that move around the sun Space- the region beyond Earth's atmosphere T : T Telescope-a tool that, when looked through, makes far-off objects seem closer and larger Test Flight-a flight made to test an aircraft U : U Universe-all matter and energy, including Earth, the galaxies and the contents of space V : V Vortex-a whirling or spinning mass, as of water or air; whirlpool or whirlwind Venus-the second nearest planet to the sun; visible as an early `morning star' or an `evening star' W : W Weather-the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place. Things like temperature, moisture, wind velocity and barometric pressure influence the weather Weight-the measure of the pull of gravity on an object References : References http://www.nasa.gov/audience/forstudents/k-4/dictionary/index.html http://mrskaymedina.edublogs.org/ http://www.lexipedia.com/english/Jupiter http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
