A personalized, standards-based textbook A working portfolio – all of your students’ notes, classwork, quizzes – in one convenient spot. Notebooking is a way for students to become more active in the learning process Why I like Notebooking : Why I like Notebooking Having everything in one location. It is easy to refer students back to something they had already done or something we had discussed. They help to "block" information so it provides a type of mental cataloging The focus is on student centered work Advantages to Notebooking : Advantages to Notebooking It acts as a portfolio Organizes material and thinking It is easy to glance at a student notebook and know what they are missing Encourages children to take pride in their work Parent conferences are much smoother when you can show them all their child's work in one location. Encourages teachers to think about how students can engage with the material daily. The Basics : The Basics The LEFT hand side is for LEARNING The RIGHT hand side is for student REFLECTION Teacher driven side Student driven side Supplies : Supplies Notebook (composition, spiral, or binder) Glue Colored Pencils or Crayons START OF THE UNIT : START OF THE UNIT TITLE PAGE STANDARDS Recycling : Recycling Since one side is always glued flat to the book you can use recycled paper. Recycled side Side that the students will see Textbook : Textbook Use as a resource and incorporate it into activities…..
