The Balance:

The Balance Copyright only protects for a limited amount of time This is crucial for expanding on former ideas Helps society move forward

Public Domain: I’ve Been Working on the Railroad:

Public Domain: I’ve Been Working on the Railroad Originally released in 1894 as the “Levee Song” in the CarminaPrincetonia The original songwriter is Unknown to this date The Sandhills Sixteen released the recording in 1927 on Victor Records Many similar versions have been derived from this song including modern versions and I’ve been Working on the Trestle Has been used in many TV shows, movies, and cartoons over for almost a century.

What’s the Deal?:

What’s the Deal? This song is pre-copyright classic, before many of us knew about copyright, this song was already used over and over. This is an American folk song and still the original author of this song has yet to be identified. I believe that it is in the best interest of the deceased mystery songwriter to make this a public domain song since there is no known family ties to the songwriter. This song was also created when copyright didn’t even exist so it is also before the 1910 copyright act and also even if it was, it would still be public domain for exceeding time limitations of the copyright acts.

Michael Jackson: Human Nature:

Michael Jackson: Human Nature Has been sampled and covered by many artists including: SWV, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Nas , Alicia Keys and recently by Chris Brown and more. SWV and Chris Browns works are derivatives of the original song performed by Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson recently passed in June of 2009. His copyright protection will last for another 69 years before a renewal of registration needs to be made. In the meantime, his immediate family will receive his royalties.

What’s the Deal?:

What’s the Deal? It is in the best interest of the artist and his family to enforce the rights of the song, because it is relevant in the innovative minds of other artists. Since the passing of Michael Jackson, the song is ever closer to the time limitations of copyright

Public Domain “Jingle Bells”:

Public Domain “Jingle Bells” Written By James Pierpoint in 1857 Used widely in Holiday movies such as A Christmas Story There have been many recreations of the song used in Christmas music compilations
