Skeletal system :

Skeletal system

Skeletal system :

Skeletal system made up of -- bones -- ligaments -- tendons It shapes the body and protects organs works with the muscular system to help the body move

BONES:

BONES made of -- calcium -- phosphorous -- sodium -- and other minerals -- as well as a protein called collagen.

BONES:

BONES Skull bones Spine, or Backbone Ribs Pelvis

Skull bones :

Skull bones protect the brain give us the shape of our face

Spine or Backbone:

Spine or Backbone protects the spinal cord which is the message pathway between the brain and the body

Ribs:

Ribs form a cage protect the heart , lungs , liver and spleen – Produce cells involved immune responses .

Pelvis:

Pelvis protect the bladder and intestines and in women, the reproductive organs .

Ligaments :

Ligaments stretchy bands hold the bones together

Tendons:

Tendons keep the muscles joined to the bones.

Marrow:

Marrow Inside the bones soft, fatty tissue produces red blood cells white blood cells and other immune system cells

How skeletal system works:

How skeletal system works It needs help from muscles and joints . Muscles are joined to bones by tough tissues called tendons . Muscles pull the joints so we can move

JOINT:

JOINT is where two bones meet There are 3 types of joints Hinge joints Ball and Socket joints Pivot joints

Hinge joints:

Hinge joints Some bend in only one direction like a knee or elbow .

Ball and Socket joints:

Ball and Socket joints Some move in all directions like a hip or shoulder allow the greatest freedom of movement

Pivot joints:

Pivot joints Some turn from side to side like a neck or wrist

3 major jobs of skeleton:

3 major jobs of skeleton It protects our vital organs such as the brain, the heart and the lungs. It gives us the shape that we have. Without our skeleton, we would just be a blob of blood and tissue on the floor . It allows us to move . Because our muscles are attached to our bones, when our muscles move, they move the bones, and we move.

skeleton:

skeleton When you were born your skeleton had around 350 bones. When you become an adult, you will only have around 206 bones. as you grow, some of the bones join together to form one bone.

Cartilage:

Cartilage The end of each bone tough, smooth shiny kept apart by a thin film of slippery fluid that works like oil so your bones won't scratch and bump against each other when you move

FAST FACT!!!:

FAST FACT!!! The smallest bones in the body??? stapes , or stirrup in the ear The longest bone ??? Leg . It is called the femur The body part that has the most bones ?? Hand - 26 bones each hand The bones are filled with a fatty substance called?? Marrow The only jointless bone in your body is ??? the hyoid bone in your throat
