Radioactive Decay:

Radioactive Decay Rate of radioactive decay is measured by the half-life of a radioactive nucleus Half-life = time it takes for one-half of the nuclei in a sample to decay Independent of the sample size n = number of half-lives

Example:

Example Iodine-131 is an isotope used in treating thyroid cancer. It has a half-life of 8.07 days. If a hospital starts out with 500. g of I-131 on the shelf, how much will be left after 24.21 days? 62.5 g 62.5 g 3 half-lives
