Our project avoids handouts that corrupt and handicap individuals. Rather, we look for ways that people can advance through their own initiative and God given talents. We subscribe to the saying: “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.”

An Example of how the Holy Spirit can work through a missionary couple to Change Lives. :

An Example of how the Holy Spirit can work through a missionary couple to Change Lives. In 1996, Tshala Mwengo was just a village boy in D.R. Congo with a desire to learn about agriculture. Through your gifts, Roxanne and I empowered him to his full potential. Today, Tshala Mwengo has a B.S. degree in Agriculture from Africa University and has just been commissioned a full missionary by the General Board of Global Ministries. He is my colleague and co-director at Mujila Falls.

“Where there are no oxen, the manger is empty, but from the strength of an ox comes an abundant harvest.” Proverbs 14:4

We train Drivers and not just Oxen :

We train Drivers and not just Oxen After our trainings, drivers can manufacture their own yokes and equipment. They can train and care for their own oxen. They can pass this knowledge on to others. Sustainability and appropriateness to the culture and economy are foremost.

Donkeys were not known in this area previously :

Donkeys were not known in this area previously With the help of a VIM Team from Wisconsin, these donkeys will be trained to carry pack and pull carts to help people who can’t afford motorized transportation. They will now be able to get their crops to market and supplies home quickly and efficiently.

Slide 15:

DREAM TO REALITY

Slide 16:

Crop production is at the heart of our work at Mujila Falls. God provides the soil and rain, we provide the work and skill

Slide 17:

Harvesting the maize has been made easier by the purchase of a four ton truck. Maize is also harvested with oxen and wagons. Newly built ferro-concrete corn crib will safely store the harvest through the coming year.

“…a Land Flowing with Milk and Honey.” and much, much, more. :

“…a Land Flowing with Milk and Honey.” and much, much, more. Women’s training in goat milking and goat management. For the first time these women will control the means to daily milk for their children. Women are encouraged to bring their small children and learn to prepare goats’ milk in a variety of ways. They also learn about balanced nutrition.

Slide 19:

Mary was orphaned at birth. An aunt agreed to raise the baby, but had no milk to give her. We agreed to provide one litre of milk per day for the past two years. Mary now fits the American Medical Association weight to age statistics for a normal two year old.

Honey gathering is traditional; Bee keeping is new in Africa. :

Honey gathering is traditional; Bee keeping is new in Africa. This “Kenya” top bar hive is an innovation that will help people to keep bees close to home and in larger numbers. The hive was made on site using wood from our own saw mill. Much wild honey can be harvested from the numerous trees and wild plants in the area. There is great demand for honey in Zambia.

Africa’s vast grasslands are useless without cattle :

Africa’s vast grasslands are useless without cattle God created a species of animal with the ability to change useless grass into priceless milk, meat and power for the nurture of His people. Our project teaches people how to make milk and other products from natural grass and what we can grow through the use of oxen.

Slide 22:

Silage made from tropical forage introduced at our site keeps cows milking through the six month long dry season. Improved dairy cows and concentrates Make for more productive farmers Cream separator helps add value Effective marketing of milk in “bush”.

Chicken Project aims to make Mujila Falls more self-financing :

Chicken Project aims to make Mujila Falls more self-financing Two layer facilities provide space for up to 2000 hens. We expect to produce up to 1800 eggs per day. Improved Chickens use locally grown maize to produce high protein eggs, thus improving markets for farmers. Eggs were scarce and expensive in the past

Eggs create jobs for haulers and sellers. :

Eggs create jobs for haulers and sellers. We have lowered the price of eggs by 30% in the Mwinilunga area and increased consumption of high protein, easily digested eggs especially needed by growing children and those suffering from HIV-AIDs.

Pork has a future in Africa :

Pork has a future in Africa There are far fewer pigs in Africa than on any other continent. Pigs are one of the most efficient animals for converting feed into high protein meat. Pigs can eat garden waste and other undesirable feeds. Pigs can help end hunger and malnutrition in Africa.

Other Appropriate TechnologiesMake Life Better :

Other Appropriate TechnologiesMake Life Better This bread oven is roughly copied from those I saw in Central America while a Peace Corps Volunteer. The Lunda have no way to make bread at the village level.

Using Oxen to Build Dam for Irrigation :

Using Oxen to Build Dam for Irrigation For less than $50.00 we built a simple dirt scraper that can be pulled by oxen. We were able to build a sizable dam in just two weeks. With water for irrigation farming can take place during the six month long dry season and help farmers increase profits. Fish ponds can be built the same way.
