430: P is MORE than KH. All the places he’s been! Total loss of time. Surprised to see Ch.
431: P bonds with J and forces her to take him to the place where she cannot go. He goes.
432: P orders J to change h2o. He will use it as a weapon to THREATEN to destory the MAKERS and the SPICE. He knows the Guild ships are overhead with Sardaukar, Armies, and the Emp.
This is the beginning of the final act of the story.
The Gathering Storm: 434-442 :
The Gathering Storm: 434-442 434: Emp’s ship with massive “tent” that stretches down from space.
435: Emp is so confident, he has all his women along. A storm is coming.
436: Guild knows P can destroy spice, but he is NOT doing it. Guild won’t risk an attack. Waiting for P.
437: Read for battle. Stil distrusts city men; P says they need them. They’re good, too, and hate Harkonnens.
439: Issue of flags. Will the Emp fly Atreides flag and recognize P as Duke? Instead, he flies CHOAM flag--representing that profits come first.
439: Plan. Wait for the storm (an hour). Use Atomics to blast shield wall and rockets to knock noses of ships.
441: Storm hits. Shields down. Emp is trapped.
442: News that Leto is dead. Alia captured.
The Battle: 443-451 :
The Battle: 443-451 443: Baron knows he’s in trouble.
445: Emp is ANGRY. 447: Impressed by Fremen toughness; believes Baron hid it from him. Alia is here too. She’s 4. Emp believes BH and Duke were allies against HIM!
449: Emp doesn’t understand the situation. Orders Alia thrown out in storm. Says to reform in space.
450: Too late! Shields down, battle on. Fremen attack on worms!
450: Alia kills Baron. 451: Hand to hand combat. Emp withdraws.
451: Emp has only one weapon left--trechery--calls for Count Fenring.
The Aftermath: 452-474 :
The Aftermath: 452-474 Victory! P meets Emp in Residency to discuss terms. 453
455: P will take throne to prevent jihad. 457: P will marry Princess Irulan.
460: Hawat has needle. Turns on himself. Dies.
461: P orders Guild ships away. Argue. Threatens to destroy spice.
463: P calls out Rev. Mother. 90 generations to produce P--but he won’t do BG bidding. Can kill her with a word.
464: P and princess to wed against Emp’s will.
464: Gurney wants to kill Harkonnen, get his revenge. FR invokes Kanly against P. Gurney angry that P will fight-- “you promised!”
Resolution: 466-474 :
Resolution: 466-474 466: FR is muscle-bound; P is thin. J offers a magic word (implanted by Lady Fenring when she seduced FR). P refuses.
467: P sees only Jihad ahead. He has failed. 468: P knows this is the climax--if he wins, they’ll follow him across universe; if he dies, he’ll be a martyr and they’ll do the same.
468: FR is fighting for power, for the throne.
469: P notices FR has flip dart. 470: FR wounds P--poison? Talks about Ch.
471: Needle. Voice tells P to use word, but he won’t. Stabs FR through brain.
471: Emp wants Fenring to kill P.
472: Fenring refuses, though he would win. He’s almost a KH, but he’s a eunich.
472: P will sentence Emp to Salusus Secundas.
473: P demands ALL of Emp’s CHOAM holdings as dowry!
474: P vows to keep Ch. Irulan will never have his love….
