Initiate appropriate Lab Investigations & XRs at Triage/Resus – following our existing guidelines wrt FBC, hypocount, ECGs, Xrays:

Slide 4:

ECGs 1.  ALL cases presenting with chest pain 2.  ALL cases presentling with syncope, giddiness, drowsiness 3.  ALL cases presenting with shortness of breath 4.  ALL cases if tachycardic (HR>100/min), bradycardic (<60/min), hypotensive (systolic blood pressure <100mmHg) or hypertensive (180/120 mmHg) 5.  ALL cases of drug overdose 6.  ALL cases presenting with stroke Hypocount 1.  ALL cases of altered mental state 2.  ALL cases of shortness of breath 3.  ALL DM cases 4.  ALL cases with stroke 5.  ALL cases who are septic (fever, altered mental state, hypotensive )

Urine Specimen Ask patient to collect a urine specimen for all cases of dysuria, abdominal/back pain, fever whilst waiting.   KIV send specimen if ?UTI   :

All P1 and Resus cases to be seen stat   Do not triage and leave patient unattended. :

When at triage, inform patient of approximate waiting time esp if it exceeds 2 hrs.:

Do Not allow MOs/locums to pick and choose their cases/decline to see cases triaged to them.  Tell them to bring it up to the senior doctor on duty if they have any problems. :
