Sustain The World International, Inc. :

Sustain The World International, Inc. By James D. Fairgrieve President’s Message

For humans to live sustainably :

For humans to live sustainably However, there is now clear scientific evidence that humanity is living unsustainably, and that an unprecedented collective effort is needed to return human use of natural resources to within sustainable limits. …the Earth's resources must be used so they can more easily be replenished.

SUSTAIN THE WORLD INTERNATIONAL  sets the stage :

SUSTAIN THE WORLD INTERNATIONAL  sets the stage …for what can be possible when corporate, social, scientific, physical, communicative, financial, medical, statistical, and professional resources are put together by our determined and devoted colleagues to improve Food, Health, Water and Environment to create far greater international sustainability.

What is Sustainability? :

What is Sustainability? In the lips of the sincere, it may mean better stewardship of what we have available so that we use and waste less while preserving more.  Among sinister power brokers, it is a way to create a giant disparity between the haves and the have not’s – with only the elite at the top being the ones who have. The rest of us will be called upon or forced to sacrifice “for the common good”

While there are sophisticated definitions and formulas being used in symposiums and laboratories world wide…. :

While there are sophisticated definitions and formulas being used in symposiums and laboratories world wide…. Let’s keep it simple

The principle of sustainability is as basic as running a vehicle :

The principle of sustainability is as basic as running a vehicle It means “How long and for how far can we keep this car or bus on the road before we run out of fuel or the thing falls apart?”

For a family budget :

For a family budget “How long can we keep up our lifestyle if we stay within the means that actually comes through the door without relying on credit cards?”

For a business :

For a business “How long can we keep the doors open if we don’t get some new customers?”

For an economy :

For an economy “How long can we keep up the illusion of prosperity before the world catches on that it is all just ledger entries with no product or substance behind it?”

For the planet :

For the planet “How long can we keep taking and wasting and damaging before we all begin to run out of what is available for each of us just to survive?”

In each case, the crisis may be down the road :

In each case, the crisis may be down the road But someday, somewhere, we will wish we had had better answers when the day of reckoning does indeed come. We may be OK for now…

Sustain the World International, Inc. is a non-profit corporation :

….dedicated to the proposition that all people should have access to the means not just to sustain but also to improve their lives and families for generations to come wherever they are located on planet Earth. Sustain the World International, Inc. is a non-profit corporation

Our goal is not to arbitrarily force some on the planet to do with less so that others can by confiscation and redistribution have more. :

…for it is both against nature itself and contrary to the nature of man to exercise the freedom of self-determination. Our goal is not to arbitrarily force some on the planet to do with less so that others can by confiscation and redistribution have more. Such a notion is innately unsustainable

Instead, working with the help of private sectors and NGO’s around the globe :

Instead, working with the help of private sectors and NGO’s around the globe …STWI will provide information, training, and technology to people groups regardless of gender, religion, or national boundaries.

Caring, sharing and teaching CAN make a difference :

Caring, sharing and teaching CAN make a difference We are committed to the proposition that once properly taught and equipped with the necessary tools, both the sophisticated and the simple the world over can understand and develop the means to overcome unnecessary challenges of ill health, malnutrition and poverty. Which so often accompanyignorance neglect exploitation

We believe that the Earth :

We believe that the Earth …with all of its systems and capabilities, is a marvelous “machine” designed to be able to supply our ongoing and increasing demands if properly cared for. Unfortunately, we have taken for granted the amazing capacities of our little piece of the universe and have assumed that we could continue to mismanage and abuse its systems without consequence. Much like the abuse we heap on our bodies by neglect and poor eating habits, the planet’s resilience and redundancies have lulled us into a frame of mind that thinks that there is no end to the harm we can do and not suffer because of it.

It’s time to change our way of thinking :

It’s time to change our way of thinking Just as man has been given the ability to make poor and damaging choices, we also believe that individually and collectively we can choose to change how we manage our resources and conduct our affairs. Mankind has been uniquely blessed with the ability to innovate and invent means to make the productive capabilities of the planet even more efficient.

While some would argue for synthesization :

While some would argue for synthesization …which can have some positive effects but leave vital elements out of balance, we find that the needs are better served by the understanding, harnessing, and directing of natural processes to our collective advantage. By so doing, we can actually begin to undo the damage years of exploitive and ignorant neglect have done and build a healthier more robust environment to be enjoyed by ourselves and those who follow behind us. Is it worth it? Let’s see…

How much disease can be prevented :

How much disease can be prevented …by simply helping people groups access unpolluted water or learn basic hygiene?

How much starvation :

How much starvation …can be alleviated by finding better ways to grow crops which are naturally hardy, pest-disease-and-climate resistant, and more nutritious and valuable?

How many debilitating ailments :

How many debilitating ailments …can be treated and remediated by learning and practicing rules of good nutrition and exercise?

How many life threatening maladies :

How many life threatening maladies …can be avoided by stopping the wanton pollution of our air, ground, groundwater, and waterways?

How much money and natural resources :

How much money and natural resources …could be preserved or put to more productive use for future generations by the development of renewable energy sources that virtually all can access as the technology becomes more widely available and affordable?

We do not know the exact numbers :

We do not know the exact numbers …but we know they are astronomical. And if all we saved was just one and that one was precious to you, would it be worth the effort?

To be sure, the challenges are huge :

To be sure, the challenges are huge but not insurmountable. Which means that the opportunities are virtually endless, the rewards incredible. Doing nothing is not only unsustainable, it is unacceptable!

My name is James Fairgrieve :

There are three absolutely essential needs that each of us have for physical survival on Earth :

There are three absolutely essential needs that each of us have for physical survival on Earth air water food Beyond the essentialneeds are others almost as important: energy clothing shelter, etc. In each case, the needed element must be of sufficient quality – quantity – availability, or we either cannot live or we barely subsist.

There are 3 absolutely essential needs that each of us have for physical survival on Earth :

There are 3 absolutely essential needs that each of us have for physical survival on Earth

Throughout my professional career, I have addressed issues related to water :

Throughout my professional career, I have addressed issues related to water How can we get it pure without removing the vital and healthful minerals? Is it possible to over-purify it and remove its vitality? How do we improve the delivery systems? What can we do to improve our native water resources? How do we make good water available to the largest number of people by the most economical means? How do we treat the water after we have used it?

How can we do better at all of these things? :

How can we do better at all of these things? My search for answers to these and other questions led me down many paths. Some of my efforts have been awarded patents for the innovations discovered. Sometimes the things I learned bothered me as I looked at the big picture. What was happening to local, municipal, and even national water supplies? As water delivery systems deteriorate and unbridled greed and unrestrained disregard, or ignorance for our natural resources have continued to pollute our groundwater, reservoirs, rivers, and streams worldwide.

Along my journey, I have met other individuals and groups who shared my concerns. :

Along my journey, I have met other individuals and groups who shared my concerns. Some, like me, focused on water issues. Others have concentrated on air quality, or food supply, or nutritional issues, or remediative medicine, or durable shelter, alternative energy, or on one or more of a host of other issues that, sooner or later, wind up being indirectly – if not directly – related.

Regardless of the particular area of interest, we all began to realize that we shared a common concern. :

Regardless of the particular area of interest, we all began to realize that we shared a common concern. We recognized that, as originally designed in and for nature, all of Earth’s systems replenish and rejuvenate themselves. For all practical purposes, though subject to the laws of thermodynamics, nothing gets wasted or lost. Everything cycles and recycles naturally . . . or at least it does when allowed to function naturally. What’s really amazing is that we can even cheat a bit, and the Earth still seems to recover quite remarkably.

But all of us recognized :

But all of us recognized …that when we get enough people over time cheating from a little bit to a lot, (not to mention profligate disregard and abuse), we begin to overwhelm the balancing forces of nature. We start to reap the consequences of our carelessness and neglect.

We all came to the understanding :

We all came to the understanding The longer we put off returning to some sense of principled respect for what we should be doing in regards to our environment, the greater the impact of our abuse becomes and the lesser will be our ability to recover without serious cost and damage.

So, with this repeated crossing of paths :

So, with this repeated crossing of paths …it occurred to us that we could accomplish more and really make a difference by jointly combining the fruits of our discoveries – if not on the same path, at least along parallel paths. By sharing what we were learning, the collective bodies of knowledge and transformational technologies could make a serious difference. Changing the course of our planet from one of environmental self-destruction to one of sustained and renewed vitality and growth.

Some people blame our problems on the population :

Some people blame our problems on the population There are too many people, they say. But in reality, population for mere numbers’ sake is not a problem for a planet as resilient as the one with which we have been entrusted. However, because of the interdependency, synergy, and synchronicity of Earth’s many systems, large populations who take without giving back and treat natural resources with no thought of integrity or responsibility become everyone’s problem. And the longer the problem exists, the greater it becomes.

For these and other reasons, the non-profit Sustain the World International, Inc., was formed :

For these and other reasons, the non-profit Sustain the World International, Inc., was formed I have been asked to serve as its president. While I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and almost overwhelmed at the challenges we face, I am also in awe of the many individuals and groups who are coming together and the collective knowledge and passion they are bringing to meet these challenges.

We have identified several major things which are going to have to change. :

We have identified several major things which are going to have to change. First, we are going to have to exercise some responsibility and restraint so that we do not wantonly consume and waste. Second, we must dedicate considerable attention and resourcefulness to discover and use technologies which make our necessary consumption more efficient. Third, we must find economic means to implement these technologies. Fourth, we must recruit and utilize a virtual army of volunteers to help share the information and methods which can and will make a difference for all of us.

The great news is that many technologies already exist to help us make wonderfully beneficial changes :

The great news is that many technologies already exist to help us make wonderfully beneficial changes …with little or no negative impact on how we are used to living. We do not necessarily have to change our standard of living. We just have to have higher standards by which we live.

For instance, in more advanced cultures, people can take the same hot shower they always enjoy. :

For instance, in more advanced cultures, people can take the same hot shower they always enjoy. It is invigorating and healthy to do so (especially if followed by a blast of really COLD water!). However, by restricting the flow of water out of the tap and increasing the pressure at which it is released, they can takethat stimulating shower with less volume of water. Thus collectively saving multiple millions of gallons of potable water every day. Then, by heating the water closer to the point of exit (the showerhead), more multiple millions of gallons of water do not go needlessly down the drain while folks wait for the bath water to get up to temperature. Simple choices. Profound results. But that is in cases where sufficient infrastructure already exists to provide indoor plumbing and hot water.

Challenges in less developed areas of the world are more basic and critical :

Challenges in less developed areas of the world are more basic and critical Sometimes there is a dearth of water in any form. How do we find it? How do we make sure that it is safe? How do we transport it from where it is to where it will do the most good? How do we make the best use of it when it gets there?

In other instances, there may be plenty of water :

In other instances, there may be plenty of water But centuries, perhaps even millennia, of habitually using the same water source at the same place for drinking, hygiene, and sanitation have left massive populations horribly at risk or deathly sick. These conditions must be addressed and changed or plagues and genetic disorders will continue to decimate them. And, sad to say, we must realize that saving millions of gallons of water, a right and proper thing to do in western civilization, does not provide a single drop of sanitary water to an individual in an undeveloped part of the planet.

Each need, each challenge must be met :

Each need, each challenge must be met What about air quality, both indoors and out? What about sanitation and sewerage treatment? What about food production? What about proper nutrition and natural immunity? What about farm pollution? What about energy demands and supply? What about . . . ? …where it occurs and in a way that will have the best effect, being both practical and sustainable at each level from top to bottom. And that is just water.

For humans to live sustainably :

For humans to live sustainably …the Earth's resources must be used so they can more easily be replenished and without causing more harm.  To accomplish this, attention must be given to dealing with root causes which manifest themselves in effects not immediately seen as being connected.

What if we focused more on pro-actively and naturally boosting our bodies’ immune systems? :

Could we then decrease our reactive dependency on synthetic pharmaceuticals and antibiotics? Wouldn’t that in turn lower the tremendous volume of prescription drugs which we excrete into our sewers and recycle back into our drinking water? And wouldn’t THAT help us ALL to be healthier? What if we focused more on pro-actively and naturally boosting our bodies’ immune systems?

And what about the vast economic impact if individuals had even some of the money previously spent on prescriptives to enjoy and invest? :

And what about the vast economic impact if individuals had even some of the money previously spent on prescriptives to enjoy and invest? Yet each positive choice we make can bring us closer to returning human use of natural resources to within sustainable limits – often with not even the hint of a sacrifice and more than likely with an overall improvement in quality of life. The lists and potentials are virtually endless.

You probably are already well aware that we are living on borrowed time and resources. :

You probably are already well aware that we are living on borrowed time and resources. While we could dwell on the negatives, we will let other sources burden you down with all that’s wrong with our environment. Sustain the World International, Inc., is all about finding and disseminating information and technologies that can help make things right again and bring some sanity and order back to how we behave toward our environment.

We trust that through what we are able to uncover and share :

We trust that through what we are able to uncover and share …that you will find ideas and technologies to stimulate your thinking and shape better choices for yourself and future generations.
