About the SAEOPP Study Abroad Scholarship The Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel wishes to encourage TRIO students to take advantage of international opportunities offered through various study abroad programs. The SAEOPP Study Abroad Scholarship is a tool to assist students in realizing this goal.

Slide 8: 

Eligibility Criteria Minimum Overall GPA requirement of 2.75 (This is FIRM). Student must be enrolled in the academic semester at the time of applying for a study abroad scholarship. Student must select a Program that will end before graduation. Student must submit a Completed Application including transcript and letter of recommendation (from faculty). Student must be nominated by an active SAEOPP member. The Scholarship is open to SSS and McNair Students ONLY.

Instructions for Applicants All information in all sections of the SAEOPP Study Abroad Scholarship application MUST be typed, not handwritten. The essay must be typed, may not exceed two pages, and should be double spaced in size 12 font, with at least 1 inch margins. The student’s name should be written at the top of each page of the essay. The application requires an original signature to be considered. It is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that the recommendation letter has been received by the deadline .

Helpful Hints Stronger candidates show a need for financial support in order to participate. Please complete Section B thoroughly. Stronger candidates have a powerful essay that tells the reader why this study abroad trip is important to their academics and them personally. Stronger candidates have an error free essay. Stronger candidates secure additional monies for the study abroad trip since the SAEOPP scholarship is not intended for initial costs or deposits.

Award Information Award amounts range from $500 - $1500. Awards will be made in late Spring upon verification from the committee. Scholarship Conditions Recipients of the SAEOPP Study Abroad Scholarship are expected to complete certain assignments such as: Maintain blog of experience from abroad Create photo/video diary of experience Prepare a poster presentation or workshop at the SAEOPP Annual Conference upon return .
