The Future Is Now Who are the new visionaries to keep the TRIO movement alive? Who will lead our state and regional associations and take us into the future? If not you, then who? If not now, then when?

What is the SAEOPP Emerging Leaders Institute? The SAEOPP Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) is a great way to begin your leadership journey. The goal of ELI is to successfully develop persons who have the desire to become involved in TRIO leadership. Ultimately, ELI graduates are expected to become involved in and lead their state and/or the SAEOPP association.

Being able to identify your leadership style Understanding the importance of team building Learning how to be an ethical leader Recognition at the SAEOPP Annual Conference Gaining interpersonal skills Insight to select your best leadership path in TRIO What are the benefits of participating in the Emerging Leaders Institute?

ELI participants embark on a two year training initiative to discover and sharpen their leadership skills. In the first year, participants learn about leadership and develop their skills (Year One - Informational). In the second year, participants actually do an internship with the conference committee (Year Two - Experiential). How long is the SAEOPP Emerging Leaders Institute?

Slide 6: 

TRIO Involvement - Candidates must have participated in their state Emerging Leaders Program or if none is available, have served on a state committee. Candidates will be evaluated on past involvement. Commitment - Candidates must attend all sessions during the two years which also means that they will register for the conference for both years. Supervisor - Candidates must have a signed statement of support from their supervisor indicating that they can attend ELI and the conference. Financial - Candidates must be a current (financial) member of their state association and SAEOPP. What are the expectations?

The SAEOPP Emerging Leaders Institute began in 1989 under the leadership of Sam Hart and Sue Hawkins. In that twenty plus year history, several of our leaders have participated in ELI. Below is a listing of current SAEOPP Board members who are alumni of the SAEOPP Emerging Leaders Institute: Leadership in Action SAEOPP Officers: President Celeste Brooks, Vice-President Tracy Lyons, Secretary Glori White Peters, Treasurer Joyce Austin and Immediate Past-President, Camille Zeigler

State Presidents: Valerie Pittman (AL), Denise Smith (FL), Sherontae Maxwell (GA), Chris George (KY), Tiffany Anderson (MS), Rod Adams (NC), and Stephen Hendrix (TN). All five officers and seven of the eight state presidents graduated from the SAEOPP Emerging Leaders Institute! Leadership in Action
