Jesus Is Our Propitiation :

Jesus Is Our Propitiation

What is a propitiation? :

What is a propitiation? The word “propitiation” means satisfaction of the debt we have accumalated to God for our sin; turning away of wrath; making us favorable to God Translated from the Greek hilasterion, meaning "that which expiates or propitiates" or "the gift which procures propitiation". “expiates” refers to removing sin “popitiates” refers to bringing us to a point that we can receive God’s favor. The word shows up in the KJV three times.

Romans 3:25 :

Romans 3:25 25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; - KJV 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement,[a] through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—NIV

1 John 2:2 :

1 John 2:2 2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. KJV 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. NIV

1 John 4:10 :

1 John 4:10 10Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. - KJV 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. - NIV

Why is blood needed? :

Why is blood needed? The principle: Substitution Life for Life Our sin is so pervasive – so evil; so terrible – that a perfect and innocent sacrifice was needed to satisfy the debt we now owe. Propitiatory sacrifice is an atoning sacrifice To atone for something means to fix something that one has done – to make a correction. Undoes what has been done.

Substitutionary Atonement :

Substitutionary Atonement Jesus died in our place. God substituted Jesus for us In stead of God’s wrath being poured out on us – it was poured out on Jesus. It should have been us dying to pay for our sin. No one but Jesus is that perfect sacrifice – good enough to accomplish our atonement. Jesus loves us this much. Is it fair? No. That is why you can’t earn salvation. It must be accepted as an unmerited gift.

Selah! :

Selah! 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. – Hebrews 12:1-3

Selah! Again :

Selah! Again 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.  6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. –Romans 5:5-7

One more time! Selah! :

One more time! Selah! Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand. – Isaiah 53:10

If I had the Time :

If I had the Time We could look at what the implications are of the fact that before the foundations of world the lamb was slain. (Revelations 13:8) Salvation through Jesus was not an afterthought by God. He was not caught by surprise by Adam’s fall in Genesis 3. No. Jesus was plan “A” not plan “B”. Jesus’ death, burial, resurrection was the culmination and goal of the plan of God.

Bible is…. :

Bible is…. Not a record of how different people interacted with God and how they found God. A record of how God has worked through human history to redeem his people to himself. Not about us. It is about God. Jesus is the fulfillment of that plan. It started in Genesis 1:1 and continues to this day!
