Structure of GSM : Structure of GSM Detail of GSM Diagram : Detail of GSM Diagram It is divided into Three Parts: The First part is mobile section The second part is known as the base station sub system The Third part is Network Subsystem The Mobile Section : The Mobile Section Contains : *SIM [Subscriber Identification Module] - Protected by a password or PIN - Can be moved from phone to phone – contains key information to activate the phone *ME [Mobile Equipment] -Voice and data transmission Base Station Subsystem : Base Station Subsystem Contains: BTS[ Base Transreceiver station] -Communicates with Mobile station and BSC -Consists of Transceivers (TRX) units BSC[ Base Station Controller] -Handover for each MS -Radio Power control -It communicates with MSC and BTS Network Subsystem : Network Subsystem Contains: HLR [ Home location Register ] - permanent database about mobile subscribers in a large service area (generally one per GSM network operator) VLR [ Visitor Location Register] -Controls those mobiles roaming in its area MSC [ Mobile Service Switching Center ] -Heart of n/w, call routing EIR [ Equipment Identity Register ] -Made up of three sub-classes: The White List, The Black List and Gray List AUC [ Authentication Center ] Slide 10: GSM Vs CDMA Specification of GSM : Specification of GSM Slide 12: Advantage & Disadvantage of GSM Slide 14: CONCLUSION GSM is making our life easy.
