Presentation on Indian Air Force“ Touch the sky with glory” By :-Shashank Mehta

History : 

History Indian air force established on 8th October 1932 under British rule. early it was name as royal Indian air force The aircraft RIAF 1st operated was wapiti planes with one squadron After India achieved independence 1947, The Royal Indian air force served the union of India with prefix of Royal has been dropped when India become a republic in 1950.

Operation : 

Operation IAF has been involved in four wars till now with neighbouring Pakistan and one with the People's Republic of China. Major operations undertaken by the IAF include Operation Vijay, Operation Meghdoot and Operation Cactus. Apart from conflicts, the IAF has been an active participant in United Nations peacekeeping missions.

in 1947 war IAF does not engage much in war it just used as transport the troops. During the Sino-Indian War of 1962, India's military planners failed to deploy and effectively use the IAF against the invading Chinese forces.[ Three years after the Sino-Indian conflict, in 1965, India went to war with Pakistan again over Kashmir. Learning from the experiences of the Sino-Indian war, India decided to use its air force extensively during the war. This was the first time the IAF actively engaged an enemy air force.

By the time the conflict had ended, Pakistan claimed to have shot down 113 IAF aircraft while the Indians claimed that 73 PAF aircraft were downed. More than 60% of IAF's air combat losses took place during war. After the 1965 war, the IAF underwent a series of changes. Soon few year later India again engage in war with Pakistan 1971 This time IAF gain the air superiority over PAF, in this war IAF used 3rd generation aircraft after the IAF gone through multiple changes

Strength of IAF :

Attacker : 

Attacker It is those jets which have the ability to hit air two surface Types are Jaguar MiG 21 Bison MiG 27

Jaguar is :-A twin-engine, single seater deep penetration strike aircraft of Anglo-French origin which has a max. speed of 1350 km /hr (Mach 1.3). :

MiG 21 bison :- Single engine, single seater ground attack aircraft of Russian origin which forms the back-bone of the IAF.   It has a max speed of 2230 km/hr and carries   one 23mm twin barrel cannon with four R-60 close combat missiles. :

MiG-27 : Single engine, single seater tactical strike fighter aircraft of Russian origin having a max. speed of 1700 km/hr .  It carries one 23 mm six-barrel rotary integral cannon and can carry upto 4000 kg of other armament externally. :

Fighter aircraft : 

Fighter aircraft A fighter aircraft is a military aircraft designed primarily for air-to-air combat with other aircraft, as opposed to a bomber, which is designed primarily to attack ground targets by dropping bombs. its types are:- Su 30 Mirage 2000h MiG 29

Mirage-2000 : A single seater air defence and multi-role fighter of French origin powered by a single engine can attain max speed of 2495 km/hr.  It  carries two 30 mm integral cannons and two matra super 530D medium-range and two R-550 magic II close combat missiles on external stations. :

MiG-29 : Twin engine, single seater air superiority fighter aircraft of Russian origin capable of attaining max. speed of 2445 km per hour .  It  has a combat ceiling of 17 km.  It carries a 30 mm cannon along with four R-60 close combat and two R-27 R medium range radar guided missiles. :

Slide 15: 

It is the fourth largest air force in the world, with a strength of 1,322 aircraft, including 680 combat aircraft and 305 helicopters, and presently operates a total of 34 squadrons. All this aircraft belong to 4.5 generations. The only 4.5 generation fighter Aircraft developed by India is HALL- TEJAS but it will come in service till 2011

Upcoming project MMRCA : 

Upcoming project MMRCA The Indian Air Force Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) commonly known as the MRCA Tender, is an ongoing competition to supply the Indian Air Force with 126 Multi-Role Combat Aircraft. The Defence Ministry has allocated Rs. 42,000 crore for the purchase of these aircraft. Six were bid for this multi-billion dollar contract which has been touted as India's single largest defence deal ever. Six aircraft were bid for the order - the Saab Gripen, Eurofighter Typhoon, Dassault Rafale, Mikoyan MiG-35 and the American F-16IN and F/A-18IN (a version of the Super Hornet).
