Slide 1:

Notice the effective dates, and be sure to visit a counselor regularly to confirm whether or not requirements have changed before you transfer. You must pass ENGL 122 with a C or better before you can take a Critical Thinking course. All UC’s will waive the TOEFL requirement for international students who pass both ENGL 122 and Critical Thinking with a B or better in each. Some will allow C’s. Confirm with a counselor. Required for CSU admissions only, but it is UC-transferable. You must take the Math assessment before enrolling in any Math course, and you should consider your academic goal’s requirements when choosing Math courses. Three courses: One from 3-A, one from 3-B, and one from either 3-A or 3-B. These courses may be taken Pass/No Pass, if the course is offered with that option. Note that the UC system will allow a maximum of 14 transferable units with a Pass grade.

Slide 2:

Three courses from at least two different departments. Pass/No Pass grades are acceptable; see the note regarding the use of Pass grades in Area 3. Two courses: One from 5-A, and one from 5-B. At least one of the two courses must include a laboratory. Pass grades are acceptable, but refer to the note in Area 3 about the use of Pass grades for the UC system. Most international students who speak English as a foreign language can verify proficiency in a language other than English with their high school records; see number 1 and 7 to the left. Be sure that DVC has a copy of your high school transcript if you are applying to a UC campus and if you are requesting IGETC certification from DVC. DVC must receive those transcripts before you request IGETC certification. See a counselor if you have questions.

Slide 3:

This requirement is for the CSU only; it is for graduation only, not admissions. Courses taken to meet this requirement may be reused in Area 3 or Area 4, but not both areas. See a counselor if you have questions. These footnotes explain the time restrictions on some courses. These FAQs will answer most of your questions about IGETC policies and restrictions. Read them carefully before seeking advice from a counselor.

Slide 4:

This section is very important for prospective transfers to the UC system. Read these notes carefully to determine whether or not IGETC is an acceptable general education pattern for you to follow considering your major. Use www.assist.org to determine what your UC major’s requirements are and whether or not that department accepts IGETC. It is very important to confer with a counselor regularly regarding your major and general education requirements for transfer.
