ORIGINALITY TECHNIQUE :ORIGINALITY TECHNIQUE What basic principles govern the problem phenomenon?
What are some other application of these basic principles?
Is there a comparable situation from another field?
What are the basic mechanisms governing this analogous situation?
Do the principles that govern the analogous situation trigger some novel approaches vis-a vis the problem situation?
Slide 4:ballisticity (Logan
& Cowan, 1984) - a feature of a process to run to completion once started, without the need of conscious monitoring - is common to all automatic
processes,
Eight Themes of Decision Making :Eight Themes of Decision Making Establishing the Decision Context
Identifying Values
Understanding Uncertainty
Structuring Consequences
Using Information
Creating Alternatives
Making Tradeoffs
8. Negotiating
decision context :decision context It sets the boundaries for the thinking you will do
about the decision. The context determines the set of alternatives that you will consider. This in turn
implicitly defines which of your values you need to think about and exactly what sorts of contingencies you need to consider. If we define our decision contexts too narrowly — and many of us do, much of the time— then we may miss our best decision opportunities.
Slide 7:Decision trees provide an intuitive graphical tool for representing the elements of a decision.
TYPES OF DECISIONS :TYPES OF DECISIONS Risk less versus risky options.
Information-gathering decisions.
Trade-offs
One-time versus repeated decisions.
Sequential decisions.
Individual versus group decisions.
Decision trees :Decision trees Decision trees are for insight. It is important to realize that the purpose of using a decision tree is to get some insight and clarity regarding what may be a difficult decision situation. The point is not to “get an answer,” but rather to gain understanding of the available alternatives.
THE CALORIE PROBLEM :THE CALORIE PROBLEM Drug to digest more food
Drug to extract more calories from food
External artificial intake of calories
Technology to generate energy through blood flow– sort of a chain of hydroelectric stations in the arteries
Yoga, for better oxidizing the blood
THE GUILTY MAN :THE GUILTY MAN ARUN- Rajeev did it.
RAJEEV- Tony did it.
BHARAT- I did not do it.
TONY- Rajeev lied when he said I did it
BRAINSTORMING TOPICS :BRAINSTORMING TOPICS Name the improvements you would like to see in a paint brush
What innovations would you like to see in the (a) voting system in our country (b)college classroom (c) newspapers
What could be done to cut down crime in cities
How could the growth rate our economy be increased
REDESIGN CUPBOARD :REDESIGN CUPBOARD ADD- mirror, fan, wallpaper, castors, magnets, bookshelves
Subtract- shelves, rear-board, handle, doors
THINKING :THINKING Learning thinking is a bit like learning jogging. The knowledge will do you no good unless you get on the jogging track.
It is not a spectator sport
Creativity is more of a dull glow than a divine spark. The more you fan it, the more it glows.
