A little story about Jan E Matzelinger :A little story about Jan E Matzelinger This is the story about an African American inventor who revolutionized the shoe industry. Jan E. Matzeliger was the inventor of a machine that could duplicate the movements of the human hand in making shoes. Matzeliger's lasting machine has stood the test of time, and his principles for design He invented the first ever shoe making machine. It could make up to 700 hundred pairs of shoes in a ten hour work day. Humans could only make 50are still used today.


Childhood :Childhood Jan Ernst Matzeliger was born on September 15, 1852 in Surinam (South America), the child of a biracial marriage. His father was a white engineer from Holland and his mother was a black woman in the Dutch colony.  By his third birthday Matzeliger was sent to live with his father’s sister.  By the time he turned 10 years old, Matzeliger became a worker in the machine shop that his father owned. It was at this time that he quickly became aware of his talent for working with machinery.
