What are the Qualifications?

What are the Qualifications? :

What are the Qualifications? Genuine Faith 2Tim 1:5 when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. Godly 1Tim 4:7 But reject profane and old wives' fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness.

What are the Qualifications? :

What are the Qualifications? Thoughtful 1Tim 4:15 Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Cautious 1Tim 4:16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, Fools Rush In Where Angels Fear to Tread!

What are the Qualifications? :

What are the Qualifications? Respectful of ALL in the Church 1Tim 5:1-2 Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father, younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, younger as sisters, with all purity. Dedicated to the Lord’s Cause 2Tim 2:3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

What are the Qualifications? :

What are the Qualifications? A Good Example 1Tim 4:12 Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. (see also Titus 2:7) Peace Loving and Patient 2Tim 2:24 25 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition . . .

What are the Qualifications? :

What are the Qualifications? Not Greedy for Money. 1Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows 11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Preaches the New Testament Pattern. 2Timothy 1:13 Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus

Slide 14:

What is His Work?

What is the Work of the Evangelist? :

What is the Work of the Evangelist? Preaches the Word of God. 2Timothy 4:1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

What is the Work of the Evangelist? :

What is the Work of the Evangelist? Converts the Lost. 1Timothy 4:16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

What is the Work of the Evangelist? :

What is the Work of the Evangelist? Corrects Error in the Church 1Timothy 1:3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia--remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 4 nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith.

What is the Work of the Evangelist? :

What is the Work of the Evangelist? Encourages AND Rebukes. 2Tim 4:2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. The Evangelist Must Be Patient!

What is the Work of the Evangelist? :

What is the Work of the Evangelist? Keeps Himself Pure 1Ti 5:22 Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people's sins; keep yourself pure. An Evangelist must not be a Hypocrite!

What is the Work of the Evangelist? :

What is the Work of the Evangelist? Instructs and Trains Others 2Tim 2:2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. We Must Train the Next Generation!

What is the Work of the Evangelist? :

What is the Work of the Evangelist? Ordains Elders Titus 1:5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you-- Evangelists help develop Leadership!

What is the Work of the Evangelist? :

What is the Work of the Evangelist? Practical Considerations . . . An Evangelist should have as many weekly bible studies as possible. Non-Christians Christians An Evangelist should give an account to his supporting congregations. Those who support have a right to know He must be honest in his report An Evangelist should be studying his bible every day. It is easy to become lazy as an evangelist. Evangelism is a “job” and must be done properly.

Slide 23:

Where Does He Work?

Where Does An Evangelist Work? :

Where Does An Evangelist Work? Where he is sent . . . Romans 10:14 -15 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!"

Where Does An Evangelist Work? :

Where Does An Evangelist Work? Where he is called . . . Acts 16:9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, "Come over to Macedonia and help us."

Where Does An Evangelist Work? :

Where Does An Evangelist Work? Sometimes an Evangelist “Goes.” Acts 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away. When Possible An Evangelist Needs to Establish New Congregations!

Where Does An Evangelist Work? :

Where Does An Evangelist Work? Sometimes an Evangelist “Stays.” 1Timothy 1:3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia--remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Titus 1:5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you--

Where Does An Evangelist Work? :

Where Does An Evangelist Work? How long can an Evangelist Stay? There is NO stipulated time limit in scripture. Philip was probably in Caesarea for over 20 years. As long as a congregation wants support a man to evangelize , and as long as he is doing the job, there is no time limit. A congregation can scripturally call a man “in” or send a man “out” – both locally and abroad!

Slide 29:

Must a Congregation Support An Evangelist?

Must a Congregation Support an Evangelist? :

Must a Congregation Support an Evangelist? Evangelists Have Overseeing Congregations Acts 14:26 From there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work which they had completed. 27 Now when they had come and gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 So they stayed there a long time with the disciples. Antioch Sponsored All 3 of Paul’s Journeys

Must a Congregation Support An Evangelist? :

Must a Congregation Support An Evangelist? Churches should learn to support Evangelists: But . . A congregation is not obligated to support a particular evangelist. A congregation can decide who they want to support. Not everyone who claims to be an evangelist should be supported. Anyone can spread the gospel but not everyone is an evangelist. Antioch seems to have been Paul’s supporting congregation on all 3 of his Missionary Trips. He also reported back to them each time.

Slide 32:

What is the Difference Between Evangelists and Local Teachers?

Evangelists and Teachers. :

Evangelists and Teachers. Evangelists: Men who are commissioned to a special task by a particular congregation. These men GO and STAY! Teachers: Men who are recognized by a local congregation as those who regularly edify and guide the congregation. These men STAY AT HOME. SCRIPTURE DOES NOT AUTHORIZE WEEKEND WARRIORS

Conclusion :

Conclusion 2Timothy 4:5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. Watch Endure Do the Work Complete the Job
