Genesis The Cleansing of the Earth – Part 3 Gen 6-9

Facts From Last Time . . . :

Facts From Last Time . . . Eight persons were saved on the Ark. Noah’s sons were: Shem, Ham, Japheth The ark took about a year to build The flood lasted for about a year Cain’s wicked line died out in the flood All of earth’s population come from Noah and his sons by way of Seth. Two unclean and Seven Clean animals were taken on the ark.

Other Facts . . . :

Other Facts . . . 450 X 150 X 45 Floor area: 101,250 square feet.  Cubic Space: 1,518,750 cubic feet. Equivalent to 522 Modern Rail Cars A barge of such gigantic size with built-in compartments would have been sufficiently large to carry all the animal kinds on only half of its available deck space.

After the Flood . . . :

After the Flood . . . We are all sons of Adam and we are all sons of Noah. After the flood, only Noah's family survived to "go forth and multiply and replenish the earth". The three sons of Noah are ancestors to three distinct and sometimes mixed peoples. They represent different heritages and the different ways God has of dealing with His children.

Flood Stories Around the World :

Flood Stories Around the World Almost every culture has a flood narrative. Each of these narratives have similar characteristics. This indicates that “something” happened in ancient history.

Flood Stories Around the World :

Flood Stories Around the World :

Flood Stories Around the World

Flood Storied Around the World :

Flood Storied Around the World Africa Southwest Tanzania Once upon a time the rivers began to flood. The god told two people to get into a ship. He told them to take lots of seed and to take lots of animals. The water of the flood eventually covered the mountains. Finally the flood stopped. Then one of the men, wanting to know if the water had dried up let a dove loose. The dove returned. Later he let loose a hawk which did not return. Then the men left the boat and took the animals and the seeds with them.

Flood Storied Around the World :

Flood Storied Around the World Asia China The Chinese classic called the Hihking tells about "the family of Fuhi," that was saved from a great flood. This ancient story tells that the entire land was flooded; the mountains and everything, however one family survived in a boat. The Chinese consider this man the father of their civilization. This record indicates that Fuhi, his wife, three sons, and three daughters were the only people that escaped the great flood. It is claimed, that he and his family were the only people alive on earth, and repopulated the world.

Flood Storied Around the World :

Flood Storied Around the World Europe Greece A long time ago, perhaps before the golden age was over, humans became proud. This bothered Zeus as they kept getting worse. Finally Zeus decided that he would destroy all humans. Before he did this Prometheus, the creator of humans, warned his human son Deucalion and his wife Pyrrha. Prometheus then placed this couple in a large wooden chest. The rains started and lasted nine days and nights until the whole world was flooded. The only thing that was not flooded was the peaks of Mount Parnassus and Mount Olympus. Mount Olympus is the home of the gods. The wooden chest came to rest on Mount Parnassus. Deucalion and his wife Pyrrha got out and saw that everything was flooded. They lived on provisions from the chest until the waters subsided. At Zeus' instruction they re-populated the earth.

Flood Storied Around the World :

Flood Storied Around the World North America Mexico The Toltec natives have a legend telling that the original creation lasted for 1716 years, and was destroyed by a flood and only one family survived. Aztec- A man named Tapi lived a long time ago. Tapi was a very pious man. The creator told Tapi to build a boat that he would live in. He was told that he should take his wife, a pair of every animal that was alive into this boat. Naturally everyone thought he was crazy. Then the rain started and the flood came. The men and animals tried to climb the mountains but the mountains became flooded as well. Finally the rain ended. Tapi decided that the water had dried up when he let a dove loose that did not return.

Flood Stories Around the World :

Flood Stories Around the World In 95 percent of the more than two hundred flood legends, the flood was worldwide; in 88 percent, a certain family was favored; in 70 percent, survival was by means of a boat; in 67 percent, animals were also saved; in 66 percent, the flood was due to the wickedness of man; in 66 percent, the survivors had been forewarned; in 57 percent, they ended up on a mountain; in 35 percent, birds were sent out from the boat; and in 9 percent, exactly eight people were spared (Perloff, James (1999), Tornado in a Junkyard: The Relentless Myth of Darwinism (Arlington, MA: Refuge Books).

Results of a Global Flood :

Results of a Global Flood What we might expect . . . We would expect evidence of tremendous upheaval in the rocks and strata of the earth. We would expect to find whole forests and thousands of animals buried and changed into fossil fuels. We would expect fossilized species and evidence of mass extinction.

Results of a Global Flood :

Results of a Global Flood What we actually find . . . Tremendous upheaval in the rocks and strata of the earth as in the Grand Canyon. Whole forests and thousands of animals were buried and changed into fossil fuels. Fossil graveyards and evidence of mass extinction.

What about the Grand Canyon? :

What about the Grand Canyon? According to the Havasupai Indians who live in its deep gorges, the Grand Canyon originated in the following way: Before there were any people on earth there were two gods. Tochapa of goodness and Hokomata of evil. Tochapa had a daughter named Pu-keh-eh, whom he hoped would become the mother of all living. Hokomata the evil was determined that no such thing should take place, and he covered the world with a great flood. Tochopa the good felled a great tree and hollowed out the trunk. He placed Pu-keh-eh in the hollowed trunk and when the water rose and flooded the earth she was secure in her improvised boat. Finally the flood waters fell and mountain peaks emerged. Rivers were created; and one of them cut the great gushing fissure which became the Grand Canyon.

What about the Grand Canyon? :

What about the Grand Canyon? While it is impossible to definitively say how the Grand Canyon was formed, a global flood would certainly provide us with at least a partial answer. Other factors perhaps could have gone into making the geography of the earth but a global flood would explain many things. The thing to keep in mind is that when we speak of ancient history we have few sources to go on. However, if we cannot trust the bible we actually have nothing substantial we can trust.

Results of a Global Flood :

Results of a Global Flood Plate Tectonics? The earth’s crust is made up of about a dozen pieces --- these are called “plates.” These plates are not stationary. Their movement accounts for earthquakes, volcanoes, mountains and other geography. This movement is called “Continental Drift.”

Results of a Global Flood :

Results of a Global Flood Plate Tectonics? . Alfred Wegener – (1912) Proposed that in the distant past, the Earth’s continents were all joined as a single landmass called Pangaea! If the Americas were moved next to Africa and Europe, there would be a match of ancient continental rocks and tectonic (fold and fault) structures.

Results of a Global Flood :

Results of a Global Flood Plate Tectonics? Radical breaking apart of the earth’s initial land mass via “continental drift?”

Results of a Global Flood :

Results of a Global Flood Plate Tectonics Would account for the shape of the continents and the similarity of species and fossils in various areas of the world.

Results of a Global Flood :

Results of a Global Flood If Pangaea is True . . . Result of 100 million years of drifting? Result of catastrophism such as the Flood? World View Makes a Difference!

Results of a Global Flood :

Results of a Global Flood One explanation of Pangaea. The earth was at one time a “super landmass” Most of earth’s water was trapped below the earth’s crust and under pressure and heat. The earth’s crust ruptured with such force that the land mass literally split apart. This resulted in the Flood and the earth as we know it today.

Results of a Global Flood :

Results of a Global Flood Is there evidence? Well . . . Maybe!!!! Gen 1:9 (Pangaea???) And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

Results of a Global Flood :

Results of a Global Flood Is there evidence? Well . . . Maybe!!!! Gen 7:11-12 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

Results of a Global Flood :

Results of a Global Flood Is there evidence? Well . . . Maybe!!!! Gen 10:25 (Shem’s genealogy) And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; Peleg: primitive root meaning to split – as in a water channel!
