To Keep All of God’s Law a. Not to turn to the Right b. Not to turn to the Left c. Not to swear by or serve false gods (ie: acknowledge them) Slide 12: How Do Fathers Teach Gods’ Law? "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. "You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. "You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. "You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” (Deuteronomy 6:6-9 NKJV) Personal: Put It In your heart first Priority: make it a priority to teach it diligently Perennial: every occasion: walking, sitting, laying down, rising up Permanent: permanent and conspicuous part of your home Slide 13: Joshua Restrains "Therefore take careful heed to yourselves, that you love the LORD your God. "Or else, if indeed you do go back, and cling to the remnant of these nations-these that remain among you-and make marriages with them, and go in to them and they to you, "know for certain that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. But they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the LORD your God has given you. . . . "Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all the good things have come upon you which the LORD your God promised you, so the LORD will bring upon you all harmful things, until He has destroyed you from this good land which the LORD your God has given you. "When you have transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which He commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed down to them, then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and you shall perish quickly from the good land which He has given you." "In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end. "For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not restrain them.” (1 Samuel 3:11-13 NKJV) Slide 16: A Godly Father Restrains His Children From Pagan Marriages God has always wanted His people to marry His people We must instill “marriage values” in our kids We must teach our kids the perils of pagan marriages But King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites- from the nations of whom the LORD had said to the children of Israel, "You shall not intermarry with them, nor they with you. Surely they will turn away your hearts after their gods." Solomon clung to these in love. (1 Kings 11:1-2 NKJV) Slide 17: Now it came to pass after these things that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being one hundred and ten years old. And they buried him within the border of his inheritance at Timnath Serah, which is in the mountains of Ephraim, on the north side of Mount Gaash. Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had known all the works of the LORD which He had done for Israel. (Joshua 24:29-31 NKJV) Joshua’s Legacy Slide 18: Fathers, What Is Your Legacy? Children Who are Sports Fanatics? Children who are intellectual pagans? Children who are worldly church members?
