No pinch-hitters allowed (if a student is absent or otherwise unable to play, do your best!) Batting team must announce “Last Batter!” Line-ups Pitching : Pitch to your own team You get only three pitches If you foul off the last pitch, you get ONE more. Overhand or underhand OK Pitching Defense : Only one defensive pitcher (rover) is allowed in the infield. All other players must play back of baselines. All other defensive rules (fly-outs, throws to bases, double plays) are the same as baseball. Defense Baserunning : No lead-offs, slides, or steals If you’re halfway to the next base, YOU ARE COMMITTED! The force-out rule applies, so keep running! If a runner is more than halfway home, a throw to the backstop forces the runner out. A throw to the pitcher means a “dead ball”. Runners may be sent back to the previous base by the umpire. Baserunning Complete Innings : Each team gets an equal number of innings to decide the outcome. If time is called before an inning is completed, the score reverts back to the score of the last complete inning Complete Innings Expectations : Expectations For Safety : No practice swinging All players must be behind the backstop before the ball is pitched Do not bring your own equipment: Bats Batting gloves Chewing tobacco Steroids For Safety Sportsmanship : You are allowed to bring a glove IF you are willing to share it with a gloveless player on the other team The teacher umpire is the sole judge of all calls and penalties Only the team captain is allowed to question the umpire about a call Support your teammates, even if they make a mistake! Shake the hand of everyone on the opposing team, regardless of the outcome. Sportsmanship Your Character : Play to win!
