The Heart : 

The Heart The Heart is a muscular organ about the size of your fist. It is placed in the center of your chest cavity. The Four Chambers: - Atrium (Left and Right) -Ventricle (Left and Right) The Heart pumps oxygen-poor blood to the lungs and oxygen-rich blood to the body. Every Living thing has a heart (ex. Mammals, Insects, all living things) The sound the heart creates (e.g. the lub-dub sound) a pumping sound. This is the sound of a beating heart. Blood : 

Blood The entire human body contains about 5L of blood.  Blood is a connective tissue that is made up of two types of cells, cell parts and plasma.  Blood is created by 55% Plasma, White Blood Cells and Platelets <1% and Red Blood Cells 45%. * Red Blood Cells: -Red Blood Cells contains a protein called "hemoglobin".  Hemoglobin produces the red color, and clings to the oxygen you inhale. the shape of the red blood cell corresponds to carrying nutrients and oxygen in an out of the bloodstream  * White Blood Cells: - There is one white blood cell for about every 5000 red blood cells  a drop of blood contains about 5 million red blood cells  White Blood Cells fight pathogens, Bacteria. Blood Vessels : 

Blood Vessels Hollow tube that transports blood 3 types of blood vessels:                         -Arteries                        -Capillaries                  -Veins Arteries -Direct Blood away from the heart. -Have a thick elastic walls that contain a layer of smooth muscle. -The thick wall of the arteries can withstand the pressure from the blood pumped out. -The rhythmic change in blood is called a pulse.   Veins   -Direct blood straight back to the heart    -Valves keep the blood from flowing backwards   Capillaries   -The smallest blood vessel in the body, extremely  narrow, -Blood vessels must go in a single line in order to pass through . Cardiovascular Diseases - There are many types of Cardiovascular diseases including:  Heart abnormality and as well as diseases from the circulatory system, which may end up killing you  - 70 million Americans in 2002 were infected by Cardiovascular disease. Blood Diseases : 

Blood Diseases The 4 major blood diseases infected by humans are anemia, polycythemia, leukemia, and hemorrhagic, or bleeding, disorders.  Anemia:  Anemia is a condition in which the blood lacks the normal amount of red blood cells, hemoglobin, or both. Hemorrhagic: Hemorrhage is the medical term for bleeding, usually excessive bleeding. There are two main types of hemorrhagic strokes: intracerebral hemorrhage and subarachnoid hemorrhage.
