To Fit In Slide 4: To Relieve Boredom “when I’m stuck in my house with nothing to do, all I can think about is going to a party” Slide 5: To Seem Grown Up “When teens have nowhere and no one to go to, they will turn to the media and see models, singers, actors older than them doing drugs and going to rehab so teens think that’s the grownup thing to do”. Slide 6: To Rebel “When I get into a fight with my parents, I’m out the door, I just can’t seem to get high Fast enough” Most Common Drugs Uses By Teens : Most Common Drugs Uses By Teens Marijuana used by 34.3% of High School Student Xanax used by 6.5% of High School Students Adderal used by 10% of High School Students Slide 8: On a average day in 2006 3,600 teens smoked marijuana for the first time Marijuana is the Highest most widely used drugs by teens Slide 9: Every day 2500 kids age 12 to 17 try a pain killer or mussel relaxer for the first time Teens Abuse prescription drugs more than any illicit street drug Slide 10: This drug can be easily overdosed when crushed or snorted and even become worse when mixed with other drugs such as alcohol Pharming parties: exchanging of prescription medications, getting high on one or more types of medication Outcomes of teen Drug Abuse : Outcomes of teen Drug Abuse Slide 12: Arrests : From 2001 to 2007, Juvenile arrests for drug abuse violations increase 121%. From 1996 to 2006, the arrest rate for youth ages 10-18 due to drug involvement increase 291%. Slide 13: Addiction: the number of teens addicted to drugs increased from 14.5 million to 16.6 million between 2001 through 2006. In 2006 there were 179,000 teen treatment admissions for drug abuse. Slide 14: Death : In 2003, a total of 15,605 teens died of drug-induced causes.
