I feel the best way to describe spirituality is to think of life as being a journey that we all travel. Call it the journey of life, the path to holiness or the search for wisdom … To me it is a journey towards knowing God That’s why John Bunyan’s analogy of Pilgrim’s Progress is the way I would describe what Spirituality means to me.:

I feel the best way to describe spirituality is to think of life as being a journey that we all travel. Call it the journey of life, the path to holiness or the search for wisdom … To me it is a journey towards knowing God That’s why John Bunyan’s analogy of Pilgrim’s Progress is the way I would describe what Spirituality means to me. Pictures of Christian’s progress To me spirituality is … the journey of pursuit in knowing God.

Slide 2:

We seem to start our journey from a sense of lostness. Even though I was raised in a Christian home, I still needed to decide whether I would choose to proceed down a path towards Jesus … or choose my own path without Him. I chose at an early age that a life with Jesus was one that is never alone, for Jesus had promised to always be with me. To me spirituality is … choosing God’s path.

Slide 3:

So I proceeded through life with the aim of knowing God in an intimate way. Carefully deciding not to turn left or right but remaining on His narrow way. Life took me through YWAM’s discipleship training school and starting Bible College. … all with the aim of serving God and letting others know that God was approachable, near and need not be a distant unknown being. To me spirituality was … knowing God as intimately as you know another person

Slide 4:

At first, life was rosey, carefree. Married life and family life were reassured, secure and happy. I thought that God was knowable, understandable, my friend, one whose promises I could depend on. I felt I had a good hold on spirituality and who God was. To me spirituality is … being confident that God’s promises are sure and secure

Slide 5:

After moving overseas with my husband, life began to become more complex and my path proceeded to become more confusing. My husband was questioning aspects of our life together that we had previously decided were fixed. He wanted to turn our marriage in a direction which I did not agree with morally, spiritually nor did I want my children to be impacted by his lifestyle choice. To me spirituality is … keep on plodding forward even when the surface is uneven, difficult with obstacles blocking your way

Slide 6:

Life quickly become very dark. I felt like Christian walking through the Dark Valley. It was narrow, and the black rocks seemed almost to meet over Christian’s head as he entered it. The evening was coming on, and the path was soon surrounded with a thick mist, so that he could scarcely see his hand when he stretched it out before him. … the air was filled with terrible sounds, which made his heart beat fast with fear….. On his right hand there was a very deep hollow, and on his left a marsh, and it was all he could do to prevent himself from slipping into either one or the other. For many months the place around me was dark, with a sense of hopelessness and confusion prevailing. To me spirituality is … holding on to basic Biblical truths, I learnt as a child because they are the only thing that I knew for sure.

Slide 7:

Ultimately, my spirituality became an escape from the turmoil around me and a place of refuge in the security of God’s providence over my life. Like Christian, I knew that this time was a season that if I kept plodding along the narrow way eventually I would see the light of hope again. I held onto my hope that the Lord’s promise would once again shine in my life and in the life of my boys. To me spirituality is … keeping your eyes on the hope of God’s word.

Slide 8:

Slowly the Lord brought me through that dark valley, to a place where what I believed was more important than what I could see, feel .. To a new place where I knew that now I was stronger than what I had been before. I knew this because the Lord asked me to share my story with others. And now little Christian was comforted in his loneliness by hearing the voice of a pilgrim who was repeating aloud some of the beautiful words that were written in the King’s Book. It was too dark for him to see who the pilgrim was, … Still, little Christian knew that he was there, and he felt less frightened than when he had though he was alone. To me spirituality is … sharing your struggle so others may see God’s light.

Slide 9:

I felt like I was to be like the one in John Bunyan’s story, another pilgrim who reads aloud God’s promises to those still walking through their own dark valley. That has been my aim for the past five years. To me spirituality is … living your life transparently before others

Slide 10:

Now I feel my spiritual walk is moving towards helping others to further their journey towards knowing God more intimately. I believe that the Christian spiritual walk is being aware of others, where they are on their journey. The more connected a person is to God, the more connected they are likely to be with others. To me spirituality is … being prepared to share your struggle so others may have a tangible way to see God’s Spirit in you

Slide 11:

To me, a spiritual person is … To me spirituality is knowing the one true Spirit, who is God Aware they are on a journey towards a higher goal of knowing God. Aware that the journey will be filled with obstacles, distractions and difficulties. Aware that it is only God’s spirit that provides the energy to keep going
