Slide 4: Information Systems Transaction Processing system Management Information system Intelligent Support system Office Automation system Transaction Processing Systems (TPS) : Transaction Processing Systems (TPS) It is an information system that records company’s internal & external transactions . A TPS meets the needs of operational managers; the output of the TPS becomes the input to an Management Information System (MIS). Management Information Systems (MIS) : Management Information Systems (MIS) ‘MIS’ is a planned system of collecting, processing, storing and disseminating data in the form of information needed to carry out the functions of management. Uses Of MIS : Uses Of MIS It is a well integrated system that monitors and controls the internal operations of an organization. The input to an MIS comes primarily from TPS & other sources from within the company. The output of an MIS takes the form of summary reports & exception data.
