In the channel of distribution, retailing is where the customer meets the product. It is through retailing that exchange occurs.RETAILING SECTORS: RETAILING SECTORSCONCERNS OF RETAILERS : CONCERNS OF RETAILERS Customer Satisfaction Ability to Acquire the Right Products Product Presentation Traffic Building Building Location Keeping Pace With TechnologyTYPES OF RETAILER: TYPES OF RETAILER Supermarkets - sell mostly food products ; Department stores - very large stores offering a huge assortment of "soft" and "hard goods "; Eg-Sulekha & Westside Discount stores - tend to offer a wide array of products and services, but they compete mainly on price ;Slide 6: General merchandise store - a hybrid between a department store and discount store. Warehouse store - low-cost, often high-quantity goods; warehouse clubs charge a membership fee. Variety store or "dollar store" - extremely low-cost goods, with limited selection.Slide 7: Mom-and-Pop - Represent the small, individually owned and operated retail outlet. Mostly these are family-run businesses Category Killers - Focus on small specialty store concepts which were previously narrowly focused and have expanded them to create large specialty stores.
