Aircraft Procedures and Emergencies

Aircraft Procedures :

Aircraft Procedures Loading Do not move to aircraft without instructors Approach aircraft from jump door side behind the wing Students must wear helmets and seat belts on the ground, take-off and landing

Aircraft Procedures :

Aircraft Procedures Climb to altitude Seatbelts and helmets removed at 1,000 ft Keep movement to a minimum Mental rehearsal: Relax and visualize perfect skydive Prior to exit: Verbal review and handsignal review Final gear check

Aircraft exit procedures :

Aircraft exit procedures Commands used in Caravan Final confirmation Assume good door position Hotel check Exit

Aircraft exit procedures :

Aircraft exit procedures Final confirmation from inside instructor “Are you ready to skydive?” “Take all your commands from ___”

Aircraft exit procedures :

Aircraft exit procedures Assume good door position (verbalize) Right hand: inside door Right foot: toe and knee just outside door Left hand: outside door Left foot: foot Head/shoulder outside Pelvis forward

Aircraft exit procedures :

Aircraft exit procedures Hotel check (verbalize) Check in: Eye contact with inside instructor Wait for nod/okay Check out: Eye contact with inside instructor Wait for nod/okay Prop: Head up, look at propeller

Aircraft exit procedures :

Aircraft exit procedures Exit (verbalize) Up: Extend legs in upward motion Down: Lower body, slight squat Arch: Step off plane Arms in neutral position Legs extended

Aircraft Emergency Procedures :

Aircraft Emergency Procedures Premature deployment (Door closed) Yell “Pilot chute/Parachute!” Get control of the pilot chute or parachute If main is out: remove from the Ride down with the airplane

Aircraft Emergency Procedures :

Aircraft Emergency Procedures Premature deployment (Door open) Yell “Pilot chute/Parachute!” Get control of the pilot chute or parachute if possible If your canopy goes out the door, you go too! If the canopy is someone else’s and you are in the way, exit the aircraft

Aircraft Emergency Procedures :

Aircraft Emergency Procedures Aircraft problems during flight Instructor dictates one of 4 options: Land with aircraft Exit on reserve Exit on main Routine exit (with or without instructor)

Aircraft Emergency Procedures :

Aircraft Emergency Procedures Land with aircraft Take all commands from instructor Emergency landing: Seatbelts and helmets on Assume crash position

Aircraft Emergency Procedures :

Aircraft Emergency Procedures Emergency exit (on reserve) Take hold of reserve handle Assume emergency exit position Exit: Count arch thousand, pull thousand, check Under canopy: follow instructor to landing area

Aircraft Emergency Procedures :

Aircraft Emergency Procedures Emergency exit (on main) Place hand on pilot chute Assume emergency exit position Exit: Count arch thousand, pull thousand, check Under canopy: follow instructor to landing area

Aircraft Emergency Procedures :

Aircraft Emergency Procedures Routine poised exit After exit: Arch (pelvis forward) Legs extended Knees shoulder width apart Arms relaxed Head up Routine and Emergency exit practice session
