Monopoli was founded after the destruction of Egnathia, a small village near Capitolo. : Monopoli is an important city near Bari. But Egnatia was destroyed in the 545, during the war between Greeks and Longobards. After that the seat was moved to Monopoli. The diocese : The diocese The diocese of Monopoli was very important in the history of south-Italy. The bishop Romualdo was an important person for Monopoli: infact during the night of 16 December 1117….. The bishop : The bishop The bishop now is Domenico Padovano: he was born in Mola in 1940 and he was elected in 1987 bishop of Monopoli and Conversano.
