Slide 5:

In the crypt there are other two frescos: Saint Katherine and Saint Margaret, who are Italy’s protectors. Saint Margareth is between Saint Nicholas and Saint Stephan. Near the picture of Saint Katherine there are some scenes of her life. There is also a fresco which represents Saint George on a horse.

Slide 6:

Near it, there is the fresco of the Annunciation. The angel of the Annunciation has large pink wings.

Slide 7:

Next to the window, on the right, there is fresco of a saint. In the crypt, all the pictures date back to the Middle Ages. Many frescos are touched up or spoiled. Villa De Martino was built in 19th century probably on the rests of a destroyed monastery.

Slide 8:

Villa De Martino’s garden is very large. In the centre, there is a large place, where girls and boys danced in the past. Many years ago, near the entry there were two marble statues, which represented two lions. The statue of Diana was very beautiful, but it isn’t any more in the garden. About fifteen years ago, during Christmas period, Monopoli’s “Corteo Storico” represented Christ’s Nativity in Villa De Martino’s garden, but now the garden is closed, because it’s private.
