He was born on December 24, 1798 and he died on November 26, 1855 He was a Polish-Lithuanian Romantic poet He was one of Poland's Three Bards, alongside Zygmunt Krasiński and Juliusz Słowacki. HISTORY ABOUT MONUMENT TO ADAM MICKIEWICZ : HISTORY ABOUT MONUMENT TO ADAM MICKIEWICZ Slide 4: The monument is located on Market Square in Krakow, between the Cloth Hall and St. Mary's Basilica. The monument was designed by Theodore Rygier. The ceremonial unveiling of the monument took place June 16, 1898 year in the hundredth birthday of the bard. Slide 5: The monument shows the poet standing on a pedestal, and under his feet are four allegories: Homeland, Courage, Science and Poetry. There’s the inscription on the pedestal: „Adamowi Mickiewiczowi Naród” (For Adam Mickiewicz- Polish Nation) Slide 6: During the Nazi occupation, the monument was destroyed by German soldiers. After the war, it was reconstructed from parts found on a scrap of Hamburg. Renovated statue was unveiled November 26, 1955 year (on the centenary of the poet's death). Slide 7: Currently, the monument is a favorite meeting place Cracovians and tourists. It is also one of the most recognized monuments in the city. Next to the "Adaś" held numerous demonstrations, happenings and events. Slide 8: The monument is also associated Krakow tradition, very popular among young people. During the ball secondary-school pupils are jumping on one leg around pedestal, believing that the number of laps is equal to the assessments of their matriculation.
