Henry (1862-1910) was a prolific American short-story writer, a master of surprise endings, who wrote about the life of ordinary people in New York City. Characters : Characters There are four main characters: Sue: a young artist Johnsy: a young artist Behrman: an old artist A Doctor The Last Leaf : The Last Leaf Sue and Johnsy were two young artists . They shared a small flat on the third storey of an old house. In the month of November , Johnsy fell very seriously ill. She had pneumonia The Last Leaf : The Last Leaf Sue was very much worried and sent for a doctor. The doctor told Sue that Johnsy had made up her mind that she was not going to get well . And if she didn’t want to live , then medicines will not help. Sue tries to make Johnsy happy: : Sue tries to make Johnsy happy: She talked about clothes and fashions Sue tries to make Johnsy happy: : Sue tries to make Johnsy happy: Sue brought her drawing-board into Johnsy’s room and started painting. Sue tries to make Johnsy happy: : Sue tries to make Johnsy happy: To take Johnsy’s mind off her illness, she whistled while working. But………………. : But………………. but Johnsy did not respond! Slide 10: She would just look out of the window and say nothing Backward counting : Backward counting One day Sue heard her counting backwards….. “Twelve” ….. “eleven”, then “ten”, then “nine”, “eight”, “seven”. Slide 12: When Sue looked out, she saw an old ivy creeper climbing half way up the brick wall opposite to their window . In the strong wind the creeper was shedding the leaves Now there are only five left. I will die when the last leaf falls. : Now there are only five left. I will die when the last leaf falls.
