Harrison Hundred K Challenge:

Harrison Hundred K Challenge Goals: To raise the awareness of the value of effective exercise to both individual and community health. To establish a significant major spring event to complement Crawdad Days in the early summer and Harvest Homecoming in the fall To stimulate the local economy by attracting visitor spending

Event Structure:

Event Structure 7 Events over 4 Days 100 K Challenge (25K a day) Individual walk/run Team walk/run (5 team members x 5K each per day) 25 K any day or days of the 4 days (individual only) 5 K & 10 K fun walk/run on Saturday

Dates & Times:

Dates & Times March 24 - 27, 2011 (Thursday - Sunday) 25 K starts at 8:30 AM (late registration available from 7:30 - 8:00 am only for all daily events) 10 K on the 26th starts at 8:45 AM 5 K on the 26th starts at 9:00 AM

Event Courses:

Event Courses 5 K is one circuit of the lake back to Spring St, then to Stephenson, finish line on the square 10 K is one full circuit of the lake with a 2nd circuit with same finish as 5 K above 25 K is one full lake circuit, then out past the 1st Baptist Church, on to Union Rd & back to the lake, then one more lake circuit finishing as with the 5 & 10 Ks

Registration Fees & Process:

Registration Fees & Process Two ways to enter: By sponsorship or by prepaid/self-sponsored fee. Participants are encouraged to solicit sponsors. Minimum sponsorship is $1 per kilometer and multiple sponsors are encouraged. Self-sponsorship fees: 25 K = $25, 100 K individual = $75, 100K team = $100, 10 K = $20, 5 K = $10.

Participation:

Participation All residents are encouraged to participate, especially walkers! There is a format for all: 5K, 10K, 25K or several 25Ks, 100K & 100K team events Participants are encouraged to “challenge” others: for example: Our bank has 5 people entering the event, how many does your bank have!

Participants (con’t) There are 8 age groups, 16 in total, 8 male and 8 female: under 15 - Youth 15 - 24 25 - 39 40 - 54 55 - 64 65 - 74 75 - 84 85 and over

Timing:

Timing The timing of the participants will be electronic. Each participant will carry a chip that is scanned by equipment as they pass the start and finish lines. This will accurately record the participants time. This is a requirement for some runners. The equipment will be purchased and volunteers trained to use it.

Awards:

Awards Special awards and prizes for the top three fund raisers through the sponsorship program # of kilometers completed times the total amount pledged by sponsors The top three finishers in overall 100 K time will receive trophies (3 men & 3 women) The top 3 finishers in each race in each age category will be awarded medals All 100K, 25K & 10K participants will receive T-shirts. 5K will receive certificates of completion with their times.

Training and Exercise:

Training and Exercise No event, with the exception of walking the 5 and 10K, should be attempted without prior training. Training schedules are provided at both the website and on our Facebook page Walking at a pace less than 5.5 kph (3.3 mph) is not effective exercise!
