The Sporting Landscape:

The Sporting Landscape Target of 1m adults doing more physical activity has been dropped. Target of 1m adults doing more sport is likely to be dropped very soon After 2013, Sport England will concentrate its strategy on school leavers and young adults. Cuts starting to affect sport.

The Wider Landscape:

The Wider Landscape The Government is committed to reducing the economic deficit. Significant cuts in public spending. Commitment to reduce the size of the state provision. Commitment to open up the public sector to other providers Commitment to the Big Society Local determination of how these agendas are implemented

CHANGES IN HEALTH:

CHANGES IN HEALTH PCTs will disappear in 2013. Public health will become part of the local authority 80% of the NHS budget will go to GP Commissioning units All NHS services will be open to competition in the marketplace - private, voluntary sector, social enterprises etc.

IMPACT FOR SPORT:

IMPACT FOR SPORT White Paper – ‘Healthy lives, Healthy People’ – commitment to public health. Significant change in staff esp. in PCTs Tension between time for setting up new structures vs time for delivery Uncertainty about how to work with new GP commissioning units. Less funding available from health

‘Support your project’ and health Guidance on making the case to health for your sport project – commissioning. Statistics and factsheets about public health and sport/ physical activity/ exercise Templates for case studies and surveys to help you to collect evidence

COMMUNITY SAFETY:

COMMUNITY SAFETY Significant savings to be made by:- The Police Probation service YOT etc. Impact on Crime and Disorder Partnerships Less funding for community safety initiatives Uncertainty of the impact on frontline services

IMPACT FOR SPORT Emphasis on community safety may be lower in the short term Resources might focus on core services BUT/ Importance of community safety and prevention might increase over time as young people’s services are cut e.g. youth centres, leisure centres
