Slide 2:

The Learning Desktop Quiet and Less Distractive Learning Environment; Game and entertainment programs are OFF; Integration with learning gateway programs; Includes scheduling and collaboration tools; Provides a rich set of learning resources and controls; Allows integration with the classroom from home; Incorporates configuration tools that allow parents and teachers to ensure successful learning; Includes integrated child safety features.

Slide 3:

The Learning Desktop is a quiet, less distractive environment where learning takes place without instant messengers, social websites, games and other distractions. Learn then Play’s Word Processor and Student Calendar are included. Links for the student’s school, study groups, teacher communications and tutor access are available. The learning browser and other learning resources are available to students while using the Learning Desktop system.

Slide 4:

Learn then Play’s Student Calendar can be integrated with other popular scheduling programs or with existing Learning Gateway enterprise applications.

Slide 5:

The calendar can fill automatically with events scheduled at school. Students may also add events manually. Calendar event types are tied to alarms and event notices to help ensure effective study planning. While using the Learning Desktop, the calendar will notify students of upcoming events, assignment due dates and examinations.

Slide 6:

Students specify event detail when entering a new calendar item manually. Alarms can be set and will notify students in advance of upcoming due dates and event activity. When integrated with a school’s existing Learning Gateway or management system, Learn then Play’s calendar will automatically capture event details and set alarm frequency.

Slide 7:

Learn then Play includes a Student Word Processor. Alternatively, parents or teachers can configure the Learning Desktop to integrate with existing Word Processor programs (i.e. Microsoft Word or Open Office) Learn then Play’s Word Processor includes a student Report Wizard that helps facilitate effective outlining and report writing. Parents and teachers may view student work that is in progress or that has been completed. Notifications can be set to let parents or teachers know when progress has been made on an assignment. This progress is also stored for historical review.

Slide 8:

The Learning Desktop can be configured to use Learn then Play’s Learning Browser or other popular Internet browsers (i.e. Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome or Apple Safari) By default, the Learn then Play Learning Browser is the only Internet browser allowed on the Learning Desktop. The Learning Browser limits students to sites related to learning activities. When working on particular subjects or assignments, parents or teachers can set the Internet resources that may be used by students.

Slide 9:

If an attempt is made to navigate to entertainment, gaming or social networking sites, a message notifies the student that only sites related to current learning are allowed. The list of allowed learning sites is displayed and the student may then click on a resource link to access related information.

Slide 10:

The Learning Browser allows students to navigate within allowed learning resource Websites. Links on sites that may lead to advertisers or into unrelated areas do not function. Links that may lead to additional relevant learning information within the selected resource are allowed and may be clicked on by students while using the Learning Browser.

Slide 11:

Students may add links to allowed Learning Desktop programs by right clicking on the Learning Desktop’s upper program bar. Program links appear on the student’s Learning Desktop and may be accessed by students while engaged in Learning related activities. Parents and teachers can specify what learning tools are available for each student user. Some students may be limited to a selection of basic tools. Other students may be given access to a wider variety of tools necessary to complete assignments.

Slide 12:

Students may also add links to allowed learning resource websites and documents. Only programs and website links related to learning or that have been specifically allowed by parents or teachers may be added as Learning Desktop link icons.

Slide 13:

The Learning Desktop also provides a learning resource system with access to research and study tools, practice exams and appropriate learning related games. Learning resources are age and subject appropriate. Parents and teachers can configure the resource system to present materials relevant to a student’s current school subjects.

Slide 14:

Students attending schools that use Learn then Play’s Learning Portal and other popular learning gateway systems (i.e. Moodal) can access school resources and assignment information when available*. When Learn then Play is used in the classroom and at home, students can access resources (i.e. assignments and materials) from the Learning Desktop. Parents and teachers can review student activity as well as collaborate with students. Parents may also monitor student activity while the student is using the computer at home.

Slide 15:

TeacherLinkPlus and Study Group Link allow students, teachers and study groups to communicate and collaborate. Students can chat with teachers, send messages or requests to teachers, administrators or counselors, get help on assignments and schedule on-line or personal meetings. Students can also collaborate with their study groups using these tools.

Slide 16:

TeacherLinkPlus and TutorLinkPlus provide collaboration tools allowing students to share desktops. Teachers and tutors can display, draw and illustrate while helping students. The white board allows sharing of student work, maps, diagrams and other illustrations. Students and teachers may chat as well as share desktops or work material during TutorLink or TeacherLink sessions.

Slide 17:

Learn then Play’s PAL™ system helps to ensure safe student communication through Study Group Link, TeacherLinkPlus and TutorLinkPlus. Only students, teachers and tutors who have been checked through the PAL system are allowed onto the study group and TeacherLink systems. Use of Study Group Link, TeacherLinkPlus and TutorLinkPlus by a student must first be approved by a parent. Cyber bullying and inappropriate language are not allowed on the LTP PAL system. Parents and teachers can be notified of inappropriate student conduct.
