IDEAS FROM THE CONGREGATION :

2 IDEAS FROM THE CONGREGATION

Slide 3:

I suggest that the kids learn to recite the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed and the 23rd Psalm. This was a requirement when I was confirmed in 1963 and I have always remembered proudly reciting these on my confirmation day! It gave me a great sense of accomplishment at age 13. Confirmation

Slide 4:

Go back to the former way of confirming all confirmands at one time. Confirmation

Slide 5:

The remodeled AB plan was to start school/after school activities, is this still the plan? Facilities

Slide 6:

I really like seeing the banners on the church outside that proclaim various activities … special services, “Trunk or Treat”, concerts. Friendly welcoming outreach to the community on that busy Campbell Road. Facilities

Slide 7:

Decorations in AB’s large rooms Facilities

Slide 8:

I don’t understand that some people are leaving this church? Why the dissatisfaction with the church? This is the Holy House of God where I worship the true God. What more do people ask? Secret of happiness: “abortion(sp?) in things other than self -James Cagney Membership

Slide 9:

Promoting/encouraging younger families to join Membership

Slide 10:

I think we need more ministries to retirees. As a way to grow the church, we should focus on the 55+ community. Ministries

Slide 11:

Offer tangible help to service men’s families at DM whose sacrifice and hard work are often forgotten. i.e - baby sitting, etc... Ministries

Slide 12:

Helping ministries like Stephen Ministries, to be with those going through grief and loss. Ministries

Slide 13:

Do away with pictures with Santa at Christmas. Very inappropriate to have Santa in the church. Miscellaneous

Slide 14:

Continue to have a minimum of candy/sweets as part of Sunday School curriculum. Miscellaneous

Slide 15:

Community building within our congregation – quarterly potlucks, etc. Miscellaneous * Congregational picnic in planning stages!

Slide 16:

Service directory – (we did this several years ago) – a listing of those within the congregation who have skills or services or businesses (w/disclaimer from OSLC as to guarantee or price break) Miscellaneous

Slide 17:

More “feast” events like the Seder meal Miscellaneous

Slide 18:

Encouragement of formation of all sorts of groups: Bible study, social, work, volunteer, crafts, world discussions, travel, etc. Miscellaneous * Brent Borchers has formed a work group on Saturdays!

Slide 19:

Leadership – total lack of sense of viable leadership we have lost many members. How do we rectify this? Miscellaneous

Slide 20:

Warm, friendly and furry (sp?) church envelopes from you in the love of the Lord. Miscellaneous

Slide 21:

Having a children’s choir is very important for the future of the church. Music is a vital part of our Worship. Music

Slide 22:

Participatory music that is joyful (our expression of love for God)& thoughtful. I can worship alone at home. At church we worship together in community, there is beauty and truth in raising our voices together. Music

Slide 23:

Music needs to be accessible and appropriate to all ages (I do not appreciate my church introducing my children to “dark” music or violent images). Music

Slide 24:

A music program for young children and youth which would include the many types of Christian music from traditional to contemporary. Music

Slide 25:

Revive the chancel choir Christmas concert and the party afterward. Music

Slide 26:

We need a children’s choir. Music

Slide 27:

Dynamic church – Mission of service to the community and world. Outreach

Slide 28:

Would still like to see an after school/community outreach program Outreach

Slide 29:

Embrace social action activities – Be not afraid of the “other” Outreach

Slide 30:

Vision: An open place; a place where Jesus’ name is boldly declared and people feel his unconditional love through the fruits of our faith. -That spirit is already here - its the opening up & embracing the community - that makes us become a natural gathering place. Outreach

Slide 31:

Invite local neighborhoods to the Adult Forums - Sam Hughes, Catalina Vista. Outreach

Slide 32:

Our church is a community center. A gathering place for many activities. (A variation on the Jewish Community Center model) Outreach

Slide 33:

Feature for the community topical programs like the recent theme of the Adult Vacation Bible School. Outreach

Slide 34:

Offer to host birthday parties for children & they invite their friends. Outreach

Slide 35:

We are so fortunate to have Pastor Marilyn – prayers go out for an Associate Pastor to help out. Pastor *Done! Assistant to the Pastor starts Aug 23

Slide 36:

Consider rotating worship leadership with other churches, i.e. “switching” with other Lutheran pastors in community for one Sunday a month. Because we have three services we might also need to have some lay leaders handle one or two of our services. Pastor

Slide 37:

1x month (or every 2 months) – or even once or twice a year – sanctuary cleanup/pew polishing etc. Service

Slide 38:

Volunteer “job” descriptions and policies on how to efficiently and effectively handle the myriad situations that happen in the church office. Volunteers

Slide 39:

After the recessional the pastor and entire congregation recite the mission statement followed by the the Benediction. Worship

Slide 40:

Start small groups to worship and study the Bible in homes, thus including new members. Each group could have an evangelism type of outreach - visiting patients at UMC, ask friends or neighbors to group and church. Worship

Slide 41:

Please consider changing worship times. 8:45 is too early for your traditional service. Not all of us grew up on a farm and are used to getting up early. I am a night person. Worship Times

Slide 42:

Change times of worship service as follows: Contemporary Service: 8:45 Traditional service: 11:15 Alternate every six months. This would give us oldsters a chance to hear our wonderful choir once in a while. By alternating our entire congregation we’ll be able to enjoy the choir and organ. Worship Times

Slide 43:

For all of us who love both contemporary and traditional church music we would like to suggest that some kind of alternating plan would be worked out. Either alternating every other Sunday or, perhaps a more practical solution, every six months. Worship Times

Slide 44:

Reconsider Navajo mission – the youth, since they were teaching others about their faith and beliefs, had to internalize same. Youth Service
