Slide 2:

66,628 Idaho children do not always know where they will find their next meal. We are the 29th hungriest state in the nation… And we rank 33rd worst in overall childhood hunger and 10th worst for children under age 5. .

Slide 3:

For some children, Saturdays and Sundays are the longest days of the week.

Slide 4:

Hungry children are more than twice as likely to have frequent headaches, ear infections and colds.

Slide 5:

Hungry children are also three times as likely to miss school.

Slide 8:

What happens to hungry children over the weekend? The Idaho Foodbank provides children identified as chronically hungry a backpack filled with nutritious food, freeing them from the stigma of poverty that many low-income children face among their peers.

Slide 9:

The Backpack Program is designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times, such as weekends and school vacations, when other resources are not available.

Slide 10:

Food is child-friendly, non-perishable, easily consumed and nutritious. Backpacks are discreetly distributed to children on the last day before the weekend or holiday vacation. Backpacks filled with food that children take home on weekends.

Slide 11:

Nationally, Feeding America members distribute as many as 35,000 backpacks each week. Throughout Idaho, we distribute 2,000backpacks each week. The need is far greater.

Slide 12:

Potentially we could distribute 7,000 or more backpacks per week.

Slide 13:

The cost of each backpack refill per week per child is $6.20

Slide 14:

The weight of the food package is around six pounds. The pack contains 13 food items for the weekend; each pack contains similar items.

Slide 15:

When you help us fill these backpacks, we can ensure that many Idaho children will eat next weekend and all future weekends throughout the school year. We cannot do this alone

Slide 16:

Thank you to our Backpack sponsors
