You use nous when refering to yourself and another person or other people. e.g. Nous sommes americans. You use vous when talking to two or more people. We use ils for masculine plural /group of males and females e.g.Ils sont des américans. We use Elles for two or more females. e.g. Elles sont américaines.

Negation : 

Negation Negation is formed by placing ne ... pas around the conjugated verb, which, in this case, is the verb Être. Jean n’est pas petit!. Jean is not small.
