Body Language:

Body Language Definition : Body Language is the unspoken communication that goes on in every Face-to-Face encounter with another human being. It tells you their true feelings towards you and how well your words are being received.

Non-Verbal Communication:

Non-Verbal Communication Studies have been done that show us the percentage of understanding that is gained from the spoken word. It is considerably less than the meaning that people gain from listening to a person's tone of voice (inflection) and looking at their non-verbal communication (gestures or facial expressions). 7% Spoken words 38% Tone of voice 55% Non Verbal

Why does it matter?:

Why does it matter? Your ability to read and understand another person's Body Language can mean the difference between making a great impression or a very bad one! It could help you in that job interview, that meeting, that business function, or even that very special date!

A picture says a thousand words…:

A picture says a thousand words… When a person plays with change in their pocket while communicating. When a person rolls their eyes after they hear or say something. When a person talks with their arms crossed. When a person rocks or squirms while speaking. When a person whispers to another in a group setting. When a person points a finger or shakes his fist at another person. When a person slumps their shoulders or looks towards the ground while speaking. …and so does our body language. We are constantly communicating with one another without even saying a word. Choose one of the situations below and describe how you perceive each expression, or what the specific body language is communicating.

What Does It Mean?:

What Does It Mean? Effective oral communication skills require an understanding of the importance of body language (kinesics) when communicating. Body language depends on and must be interpreted in context with the situation. Some nonverbal gestures have almost universal meanings…
