Slide 31:

Benigni is known for “Life is Beautiful” (La Vita è bella) an Italian film released in 1997. As narrated in the film, Guido Orefice (played by Roberto Benigni) is a Jewish Italian who invented a kind of romantic story opposed to the terrible world around him and his son. Guido, an Italian descendant of Jews, lived in the city of Arezzo in 1939 during II World War. He falls in love and then married to Dora. They had a son named Joshua. Their happiness last a short period because Guido, his uncle and Joshua are deported to a nazi concentration camp.

Slide 32:

Guido makes Joshua believe that everything is a game and that he will only win if he is not seen by “grumpies” German guards. Every day he invents new games for his child and uses his imagination to save Joshua’s life. The child, tempted by the tank which, according to his father, will be the prize, lives the Holocaust as a game without realizing the atrocities that surrounds him, thanks to the ingenuity of Guido. Later, German soldiers had to leave the concentration camp because the allied soldiers arrived but first they were told to kill all prisoners. Guido achieved to hide his son before being arrested and murdered.

Slide 33:

Guido at all times shows great love for his son. His attitude reflects a way in which you can control thoughts and facts, disguising and changing them. It shows that sometimes it is necessary to maintain a positive attitude to face life challenges.
