Humidity:

Humidity The effects of humidity are less dramatic on non-textile surfaces. Still, as a wet road appears darker than when dry, so too will physical standards alter their look if they are not maintained under standard conditions. Textiles are usually hygroscopic, & monsoons can be crazy ! Material, brought to the lab for analysis, must be conditioned before tests are performed. The same is true of measuring devices which should be ‘aged’ until they are stable in the laboratory environment. Except in extreme cases, this simply means allowing the items to reach room temperature. More care must be taken in the heat of summer, or the cold of winter.

Standard conditions in textile color control As digital color measurements (CIELAB) are highly sensitive to Temperature & Humidity, the process has involved standardizing spectrophotometers across the globe using ceramic tiles – the most stable reference material available. All dyed colors are measured after conditioning in the Vindon Ultrasonic "conditioning cabinet," a refrigerator like device that standardizes the fabric to 65% relative humidity, 20º Centigrade, with 30 minutes of exposure to D65 daylight.

Errors in spectro color measurements :

Errors in spectro color measurements . The following is an exhaustive list of the principal errors in any optical design of spectrophotometer : Errors in absolute scales of diffuse reflectance and 0/45 radiance factor. Errors due to differing properties of white reference standards. Non-linearity of the photodetector. Incorrect zero level. Wavelength scale error. Specular beam exclusion error. Specular beam weighting error. Errors due to non-uniformity of collection of integrating spheres. Polarisation errors in the geometry. Differences in methods for calculating color data from spectral data. Errors due to thermochromism in samples. Errors due to the dependence of spectral resolution on bandwidth, scan speed and integration time. Geometry difference between illumination and collection optics within the specified limits.

What is the Inter-Instrument agreement by definition? The centre (master) value of inter-instrument agreement is determined by measuring a specific quantity of instruments of the first production lot. Actually we cannot just talk of only one centre point. For getting more precise information about the agreement between multiple instruments, a set of 12 BCRA tiles is used to establish the inter-instrument agreement. By using master bodies, which are very close to this centre point, BCRA tiles are measured and the average of this measurement data is used as centre value for inter-instrument agreement.

The delta-E of 0.15 can occur in white tile due to inter-intrument differences. Now, in a Red shade it can be 0.5 or more !!
