What is a Simple Machine? :

What is a Simple Machine? A tool that makes work easier, faster, and more efficient. Simple machines are all around us helping us move things and making work easier for us. Quit

Inclined Plane :

Inclined Plane Quit •An incline plane is a slating surface that has one low end and one high end • This tool can be used to move objects both to a higher or lower place Example: ramp

Screw :

Screw Quit •A screw is actually an incline plane wrapped around a cylinder • It can be used to hold two objects together • It can whine around an object or into an object • The screw’s ridges that are wrapped around it is the incline plane that helps holds two objects together Example: lid of a jar

Lever :

Lever Quit •A lever is a stiff bar that rest a turning point called the fulcrum. •This fulcrum allows the lever to lift objects creating less work for the person using this tool Example: the back side of a hammer pulling out a nail

Wheel and Axle :

Wheel and Axle Quit •A wheel and axle is made up of a rod that is called the axle • The axle runs through the center of the wheel and allows the wheel to turn •The axle and wheel together allow us to move things from place to place. Example: Cars

Wedge :

Wedge Quit •A wedge is a simple machine that is made up of two incline planes •These incline planes meet at a point that is used to push an object apart, splitting the object Example: Knife

Pulley :

Pulley Quit •A pulley is a simple machine made up of a wheel and rope •The rope runs along the wheel and the object is attached to one side and you pull on the other side of the rope •This tool allows us to move very heavy objects and also objects into hard to reach places Example: A flagpole
