Overview:

Overview 3 rd Grade Science S3L1. Students will investigate the habitats of different organisms and the dependence of organisms on their habitat. a. Differentiate between habitats of Georgia (mountains, marsh/swamp, coast, Piedmont, Atlantic Ocean) and the organisms that live there. b . Identify features of green plants that allow them to live and thrive in different regions of Georgia. c . Identify features of animals that allow them to live and thrive in different regions of Georgia. d . Explain what will happen to an organism if the habitat is changed.

Task :

Task You have a task! Are you up for a challenge? You are being sent to one of the five regions in Georgia. After your journey, you have the task of teaching your peers all about your habitat! Mountains Piedmont Coastal Plains Atlantic Ocean Swamp

Process You and a partner have the task of creating a mobile on your assigned habitat. This mobile will have all the necessary information needed to teach the class about the habitat you visited.

More information on the Mountain Habitat This habitat has the coolest temperatures in Georgia. This is due to the higher altitude and abundance of forestry. The area is moist due to rivers and streams that flow through it. The Mountain habitat is found in North Georgia.

More information on the Piedmont Habitat The state capital, Atlanta, is located in the Piedmont. The region covers about 1/3 of Georgia. The Piedmont has rolling hills and a beautiful landscape. This habitat is not known for nutrient rich soil now that it is the home to many large cities in Georgia.

More information on the Coastal Plains Habitat The coastal plains are in the southern portion of Georgia. The upper plains are known for agriculture, while the lower plains make up the coast of Georgia by the Atlantic Ocean. Many rivers flow through this habitat. The coastal plain is the warmest habitat in Georgia.

More information on the Atlantic Ocean Habitat This region is located on the eastern coast of Georgia. This habitat is extremely warm and home to a variety of ocean life. Dolphins and sharks can sometimes be seen a few miles of the Georgia coast. Many tourists visit this habitat each year for the nice beaches and ocean activities.

More information on the Swamp Habitat This habitat is an area of land covered by water. The region is located in the southeastern portion of Georgia. The habitat covers 700 square miles and is full of wildlife. The air is extremely moist and humid.
