Definition of Professional Communication : 

Definition of Professional Communication Derived from latin word: communicare: to share It is “the sum-total of all things one person does when he wants to create understanding in the mind of another. It is a bridge of meaning. IT involves a systematic and continuing process of telling,listening and understanding.”- Louis A. Allen, Management and Organisation,Pg.144 This definition suggests that communication is an orderly and ongoing process.

These definitions point out that communication is an essentially two-way process with the basic purpose to create an understanding. :

Scott, Organization theory: “Administrative communication is a process which involves the transmission and accurate replication of ideas ensured by feedback foe the purpose of eliciting actions which will accomplish organizational goals” According to Theo Haimann, “...communication is the process of passing information and understanding from one person to another...It is a process of imparting ideas and making oneself understood by others.”

Features of Communication: : 

Features of Communication: Two way process Orderly and ongoing process Essential for all types of organizations and at all levels Creating mutual understanding by giving seeking/seeking information, persuading/influencing others and eliciting actions. Much more than words-tone/body language and facial expressions play an important part Organizational communication consists of a flow of messages through several networks like problem-solving, work flow/socializing. It is a goal-oriented process. Sender and receiver both should be aware of the purpose of communication It is an inter-disciplinary science. Knowledge derived from several sciences is used in communication. Anthropology( study of body language, psychology(study of persuasion, perception and attitudes),sociology and political science have provided insights to make communication effective.
