Purpose (Objectives) of the Pre-Jordan Seminar:

Purpose (Objectives) of the Pre-Jordan Seminar For Parents, Sponsors, Families, and Friends, to Understand baptism as one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church; Value the importance of following Christ in our everyday life; Nurture our Christian Faith; and, Participate fully in the Baptismal Rites.


BIBLICAL BASIS of Baptism 1. We are Commanded Matthew 28 :18-20 18 Jesus drew near and said to them “ I have been all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 “Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples ; baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit , and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you . And I will be with you always, to the end of the age .”

Matter used in Baptism p.1 Water - the washing of our original sins . symbolizes the rebirth of man through Jesus Christ who saved us from original sin Oil of Chrism - the presence of the Holy Spirit. The indelible Spiritual Seal.

Baptism Rite:

Baptism Rite The rite of baptism is divided into three parts: Reception of the Children 1. The priest will ask the parents of what they’re asking from the church 2. The priest asks the parents for the child’s baptismal name 3. The priest reminds the parents and godparents of their Christian duty/ reponsibilities

Responsibilities of Parents:

Responsibilities of Parents Parents shall ensure that this child which is to be baptized will follow the commandments of God and the basic teachings of the Catholic Church.

Responsibility of the Community:

Responsibility of the Community Establish a Christian family that would be a good model for the growing child to emulate. As we envision that Our Lady of Lourdes Parish will become “ A Community of Christ’s Disciples Imbued With Marian Spirit”

Renunciation of the Devil and Declaration of Faith (The parents and Godparents will renounce the devil and declare their faith in God in behalf of the child) Anointing with Chrism The minister anoints each child on the crown of the head with the Sacred Chrism. Mother or father will hold the child, godparents may also hold.
