Slide 29: Pump organ from the Roman Catholic church Slide 30: St. Edmunds Anglican church was built in 1916 Slide 31: Walter Dennis, on left, is the builder of St. Edmunds Church Slide 32: Reverend Mr. Scallen, Big Valley’s 1st minister. If weather was bad, he could sleep over at St. Edmunds Slide 33: interior of St. Edmunds church , 1931 Slide 34: St. Edmunds church in snowy winter of 1964--still cream colored Slide 35: In 1974, St. Edmunds became the Blue Church when it was fixed up for Big Valley’s 60th anniversary. Slide 36: July 4, 1974, St. Edmunds church altar Slide 37: July 4, 1974, 60th anniversary, St. Edmunds Church altar Slide 38: The Big Valley Historical Society rescued the church from years of neglect Slide 39: In an effort to save money, they used the best deal they could get on paint, and blue paint was donated! Slide 41: the Blue Church is now a provincial heritage site. Slide 42: Although the main part of the church was built in 1916, the steeple wasn’t added to the church until 1922 Slide 43: The bell was donated in the 1950’s by a rural school that was closing down. Slide 44: The bell now rings electronically on the hour Slide 45: St. Edmunds church can be rented for weddings or memorials. Slide 46: No regular services are held here. Slide 47: It is now a tourist attraction visited each year by hundreds of tourists. Slide 48: It is located in prominent view on the west hill at the end of Main Street. Slide 49: The original organ in Blue Church, 2005 Slide 50: In 2007, the top section of the organ was restored. You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
