A reptile is an animal with scaly skin that has a backbone and breathes air with lungs. Reptiles are cold-blooded Most reptiles lay eggs but not all Reptiles molt Alligator, crocodiles, snakes, turtles, and lizards are reptiles. Crocs and Gators : Crocs and Gators Alligators : Alligators Alligators are as old as dinosaurs Found in China and the southeastern parts of U.S. Live in water like ponds, swamps, marshes and lakes Females lay between 30 and 60 eggs Grow about a foot a year up to 13 feet for males and 9 feet for females Alligators have thick, leathery scales and very large teeth They have about 80 teeth in their mouths at one time Crocodiles : Crocodiles Crocodiles are not alligators – they have longer skinnier noses Crocodiles can move faster, bigger, and are meaner than alligators The saltwater crocodile can grow up to 23 feet long Crocodiles can stay underwater for 30 minutes Crocodiles and alligators are carnivores Loose up to 100 teeth a year Crocodiles lay between 25 and 90 eggs Lizards : Lizards http://animal.discovery.com/videos/fooled-by-nature-horned-lizard.html Lizards : Lizards Lizards are reptiles too Some lizards protect themselves by camouflage Other lizards can drop their tales and grow a new one The smallest lizard, the dwarf lizard is as small as a coin The largest lizard, the Komodo dragon can grow to 10 feet long Snakes : Snakes Snakes : Snakes http://animal.discovery.com/videos/mutual-of-omahas-wild-kingdom-snake-survival-skills.html Snakes are found all over the world There are about 2,700 species of snakes ¼ of all snakes are venomous Jaws can open wider than any other animal to swallow meals whole Snakes have wide scales on their bellies to slide on the ground Snakes use their hundreds of small backbones to move Some snakes hibernate in the winter Turtles and Tortoises : Turtles and Tortoises Turtles : Turtles Tortoises : Tortoises So what do you think about that? : So what do you think about that?
