Fill Series Excel 2007 Fill Tool

Definition of Fill::

Definition of Fill: The fill handle is a small black dot or square in the bottom right corner of the active cell . The fill handle has a number of uses including copying a cell’s contents to adjacent cells or to create a serie s .

Active cell: :

A ctive cell: Active cell is identified by a black border or outline surrounding the cell. The active cell is also known as the current cell or the cell that is in focus.

Cell: :

Cell: In any spreadsheet program such as Excel, each rectangular box is referred to as a cell. A cell is the intersection point of a column and a row.

Fill data within a row or column::

Fill data within a row or column: Select the cells we want to copy. Drag the fill handle across the cells we want to fill,and then release the mouse button.The small black square in the lower_right corner of the selection is the fill handle.when we point to the fill handle,the pointer change changes to a black cross . The options of the Fill Command are: Down Right Up Left Across worksheet Series… Justify

Down::

Down: Select the cell whose data will be used to fill. Specify a range of cells below to fill the data into. Click Fill > Down . The selected range will be filled with the data. Right: Select the cell whose data will be used to fill. Specify a range of cells to the right to fill the data into. Click Fill > Right . The selected range will be filled with the data.

Up: :

Up: Select the cell whose data will be used to fill. Specify a range of cells above to fill the data into Click Fill > Up . The selected range will be filled with the data. Left: select the cell whose data will be used to fill. Specify a range of cells to the left to fill the data into. Click Fill > Left . The selected range will be filled with the data.

Series::

Series: Click-> Fill->Series. Column: Columns run vertically in a spreadsheet and help to identify the location of data. In Excel 2007, there are more than 16,000. A B C 1 1 2 1 3 1

Rows::

Rows: Rows run horizontally in an Excel worksheet. They are identified by a number in the row header. In Excel 2007, there are more than one million rows. A B C D 1 10 11 12 13 2 3

Create liner and Growth trends with the Series command::

Create liner and Growth trends with the Series command: Select the cell where we want to start the series.The cell must contain the first value in the series. when we use the series command,the resulting series replaces the original selected values.If we want to save the original values,copy them to a different row or columns,and then create the series by selecting the copied values.

Continue………:

Continue……… Point to Fill ,and then Series. Do one of the following: 1.To fill the series down the page,click columns. 2. To fill the series across the page,click Rows. In the step value box,enter the value that we want to increase the series.

Linear: The step value is added the first starting value and then added to each subsequent value. Growth: The first starting value is multiplied by the step value. Click Linear or Growth In the Stop value box,enter the value we want to stop the series at. Series type Step Value result

Date::

Date: Fill a series with dates. Date options are: Day weekday Month Year Day: Fills a series of date by day. Weekday: Fills a series of date by weekday Date

Continue: Month: Fills a series of date by month. Year : Fills a series of date by year.

Auto Fill::

A uto Fill: Typing the sequence Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday,Friday repeatedly can be handled by copying and pasting the first occurrence of the sequences,but there’s an easier way to do it using Autofill. Type Monday in cell A1. If we select cell A1 and point to the right corner of the cell, the mouse pointer changes to a cross

Press and drag the mouse button to the direction we want. The area we drag the mouse over is filled with Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,Friday, Saturday, etc. Auto Fill option button

Auto fill option List::

A uto fill option List : Copy cells Copy the contents of the selected cells to the cells indicated by the fill operation. Fill series Fills the cells indicated by the fill operation with the next items in the series. Fill formatting only Copy the format of the selected cell to the cells indicated by the fill operation,but do not place any values in the target cells. Fill without formatting Fills the cells indicated by the fill operation with the next items in the series,but ignore any formatting applied to the source cells.

Justify::

Justify: Redistributes the text contents of cells to fill the selected range.Numbers or formulas cannot be filled and justified.except for the left column,cells in the range should be blank.

Using Formulas::

Using Formulas: Enter 1 in the A1 cell Move down a row to A2 and type =A1+1. Next, drag the small square in the lower right corner of the cell. o/p is 2
